Contributor Guidelines

Message from the Editor

Last updated March 2013

Greetings to all current, new and aspiring Flying Solo contributors.

Since the number of people looking to join our team is increasing in line with Flying Solo’s exponential growth, competition to become a contributor is as fierce as ever. In fact, only one in four applicants are brought on board each quarter. Knowing what we like will work to your advantage in getting published, whether you are an aspiring applicant or already one of the crew.

The guidelines that follow have been refined over six years. They are stringent, but they succeed in challenging applicants to produce their best writing and in sorting out the truly committed from the half-hearted. So if you want to beat the odds, please adhere to the guidelines! In fact, those who deviate from the process (e.g. email me directly with articles) are roundly ignored.

The upside of this detailed procedure is that it creates an excellent foundation on which to develop a lasting relationship between Flying Solo and contributors, and many benefits await those who are successful.

Thanks for your interest and good luck!

Jodie McLeod, Editor
