On Friday 7 December, 2012, Flying Solo established the nation’s inaugural Work in the Nude Day – a day devoted to rejoicing in the freedoms of working by yourself, from your home. Following the success of the day, it is now to be held annually on the first Friday in December – which is the first Friday of summer in Australia.
With over 500 official participants and hundreds more joining in the fun from the privacy of their home offices, the day gave all involved the chance to take full (monty) advantage of the flexibility and freedom of running their own business from home. To show the world just how liberating working from home can be, many supporters posted self-portraits on the Facebook event wall wearing nothing but their birthday suits – tastefully composed, of course! Check out this video of our editor Jodie McLeod getting into the spirit of the day!

It was our pleasure to hit the road for a series of free events across Australia as part of PayPal's Driving Business Online initiative. We joined some of the leading minds in the e-Commerce industry and successful Australian entrepreneurs who are helping business owners succeed online. Our own Robert Gerrish presented his keynote presentation '5 tips to online success'. For more information visit www.drivingbusinessonline.com.au.

Meet-ups are informal gatherings of solo/micro businesses, meeting for the purpose of building relationships and mutual business support. Typically a meet-up may comprise a gathering of as few as 3-4 people, to as many as a dozen plus. Often meeting in cafés, libraries or similar locations, meet-ups are promoted via the Flying Solo Forums.

A big thanks to all who attended Independents' Day 2011. Want to reminisce? Check out the photo gallery, view speaker presentations here or check out our video round up of the day. Our friends over at Shoestring Launch summarised the day perfectly in their blog, here's what they had to say:
"The day was action packed and covered topics such as Marketing Success, How to use LinkedIn for Business, How to get everything completed in a time poor world, Managing your business for profit, Succeeding with Facebook, How to give a powerful presentation and concluded with techniques on how you can boost your brain to be performing at your peak all the time.
The event was partnered by the NSW Government as a part of Small Business September as well as Optus, BNET and the Web Showroom. It was also great to see a number of great services exhibiting their products and services and offering awesome advice and give aways to the Small Business community.
It was great to see that twitter was embraced during the event, with a lot of attendees giving those who couldn’t make it a step by step snapshot of what was happening during the keynotes and forums. By around 10.00am #FSID was trending throughout Sydney, showing exactly how much power small and solo business has within this city."
We couldn't have put it better ourselves!
