I had a browse at your site. Thanks for being daring enough to put it out there for comment. I think it's good that you are steering away from the typical brochure style website but there are a few elements I would be careful about in this approach. As per the previous comments, I would definitely watch the balance. The left side bar being wider than the right sets the balance off a bit.

My other suggestion would be the background colour. The deep grey with the type in the light grey makes it a bit hard to read.

The design of a website is a lot of work so I encourage you to keep going with it. Another thought to ponder is the issue of priority. What elements would you like to stand out in order of most important to least important? Then create your site with those priorities in mind.
