Default Re: Outsourcing the non-important

Hi
Both sides of the argument are valid. As small business owners most of us have to watch our costs, but at the same time it is better to keep the jobs and money within our economy.

During my time off from the corporate world as a stay at home Mum, I was always amazed at the amount of intellectual capital that was being under utilised within the community of stay at home parents (both Mums & Dads). This was one of the drivers that prompted us to form Consulting WorX because although this workforce required flexibility in their working hours, their high level of skills and low overheads makes it a very compelling community to engage.

Just to give an example, one mother was a partner in a tier 1 accounting firm when she decided to put her career on hold and stay at home to raise her two young preschoolers. She was being charged out at $250 - $300 per hour for her services in the firm, but once at home she started looking for bookkeeping work around her area and charged her services out at $50 per hour. Although her skill level hadn't changed, she did now require greater flexibilty in her working hours. As long as the business was able to provide this flexibility, they were saving at least $200 per hour straight to the bottom line.

Before sending jobs off overseas, all I'd ask is for a business to take a look at stay at home working parents as a viable consideration. (& yes I'm a stay at home working Mum too).
Thanks
Patrina
