Well I don't know what happened to the OP but this has turned into a fascinating thread! Having failed marketing101, through lack of ability to take the subject seriously, I am probably using the term "business branding" wrongly. I mean as a solo business owner people get the idea that Lis does XYZ on the internet so if they want to do XYZ themselves she maybe able to help. I do that my talking about what I do on my blog, and far more importantly help others - which is I guess how you are using linkedln, twitter etc
I totally agree that you have to give information away for free before you can expect anyone to trust you enough to buy from you and I guess that's how I "brand" myself - plus using a consistent pic/name around the net so people recognise me. If you thought I meant a pretty logo and business card - nope haven't got either of those!
