insurance for Saddlery Business?

Hi,

I am thinking of starting a small business dealing in Horse Saddles, Horse Rugs, Saddle Pads and Bridles etc. selling online, e-bay shop and through some personal contact initially. I am going to Import all the products into Australia. what types of business insurance would I be looking at?

I called AAMI today and was advised that AAMI doesn't cover this product category?

what other insurance providers I can contact?
are there specialised Insurance providers for such products?

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I did a bit of snooping around and the closest I could find is Horse Safety Australia but they are more about insuring horses but I did notice they covered options including saddlery.

The other thing to try would be to speak to other saddlery firms to see who they use?

For businesses like yours we recommend you visiting the National Insurance Brokers website: www.needabroker.com.au This website should a list of some brokers in your area that can help you obtain insurance for your business.

With regard to the types of covers you may want to consider. We recommend that businesses selling products online take the following covers:

• Fire
• Theft
• Money
• Liability
• Business Interruption

(With this I've assumed your running this business from home - feel free to correct me as this would alter my recommendations slightly).

I'll look into the website you provided me and see how we go. will update once i get something arranged.
And yes you are right at this stage I will be operating from home,and a directly visiting some saddle retailers with my products for marketing. I am also looking at attending some horse shows for marketing purposes only. Hopefully once things pick up i will be looking at other options too, like becoming a supplier and having an office etc.

Hi Discount_Saddles,

With a bit more information (ie where manufactured, quality control in place etc), I may be able to assist with the Business Insurance you require. No matter which way you go, ensure your Products Liability is covered appropriately. (normally with the Public Liability). Some Insurers may not provide the cover as a "deemed manufacturer" due to the importing.

Can't help you with your Business Insurance but you have had plenty of advice here.

I can recommend Wayne Parry (google him) -he is a dedicated Freight Insurance Specialist who could probably assist you with your insurance needs when you are importing and shipping around the country.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. I got in touch with GIO and they have given me a quote for $1213.20 for a yr. covering fire and other damages, burglary and Public and Product liability.

I called NRMA today as well and they could not help me with it as well. I am getting in touch with CountryInsurer as well. hoping to get some positive response from him as well.
