Our website www.BananaBaby.com.au has been down for 2 days now. We have been with the hosting company Webcity for 12 years. It's getting very annoying as our customer are unable to access to site and we are unable to process online orders or even our emails. Any suggestions on a reliable hosting company with high SLA?

Who is your web developer? I would immediately speak to them about this, and ask them for a recommendation. From a technical point of view, it looks like the DNS servers (thing that translates the domain name to the IP address) aren't responding. What have Webcity said?

    hi,

This actually looks like a DNS issue, not a hosting issue. Have the DNS records for the domain named changed recently.

Login into your domain name registrar account, check where the name server fields are pointing to and cross check them against your hosting companies name servers.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Apparently Enetica do the DNS hosting for a number of hosting companies, including Webcity are affected.

I noticed their status page says there is an outage. It's extremely vague as what the issue is and I don't blame you for looking for alternatives.
There are 100s of options and the best fit will depend on your needs. I use Panthur (since 2011) and have been very happy with them.

Christ, their hosting starts at $5 a month.

It's no wonder your site is down.

You get what you pay for.

I had a similar issue a few years back, not for as long, but it made me separate my hosting from the DNS, and I now use (and have for a few years) DNSimple...their specialists, it's all they do and they do it very well.

I noticed in another thread you mentioned 10K was cheap for a website, so I assume you've got biggish dollars tied up in your site...why are you using cheap hosting in the first place?

I think many website owners seriously under estimate the importance of a good DNS provider (including for load speed issues). If you don't want use one of the specialists like DNSimple I'd being looking at the big ones like AWS as suggested in an earlier post.

From the linked articles it sounds a bit like they've been hit with a denial of service attack that they can't manage.

I worked with a National company a few years ago that were doing in excess of $10M a year and they were using $9 a month hosting.

The site was going down every second day.

    Crazy.

Spend a few dollars on hosting if you have a business. If you have a hobby then go with the cheapest you can find.

Don't sweat the difference between different parts of the world IF the hosting is reliable and strong.

Google understands a page may load a quarter second slower or faster some days or hours...

For the moment at least, the speed thing is more of a pass or fail judgement for Google :)

Google also knows that its own servers are all over the place and its results vary by location...

Last I looked Facebook was served from Ireland though not punished here in Oz, maybe hosted in Hong Kong or Manila by now with CDN support from wherever (?)

and many big Oz sites are actually served from US...

Consistency of not giving the user a crappy experience is the key.

I see you're back up now - really fast to access. Have you moved the site? If so, which provider did you end up going with?

The website was back up on Saturday. Then it was off on Sunday. It was then back online again on Sunday night. I immediately took backup of the website and the database. Still looking for new host.
