Hi Carly, You are very welcome to any help I can give you. It sounds like you have already started on the journey and the Council is definitely the best place to start - not only the Health Department, but make sure you also contact your Business Development Group (Economic Development). Their job is to support any new business in their municipality and they often run networking groups and provide advice and guidance on other support avenues for you. Flying Solo has a lot of information on starting a business (business names, structures, etc.) and Business Victoria also have a fantastic website that includes checklists for new business (even particularly food business). It's a lot to learn, but you may be able to get yourself a mentor through the Council to help you work through it. There is another cake decorator that works out of someone else's kitchen in Perth, so you may like to identify a cooking school, TAFE or community hall that is already registered and willing to share.

I'm wanting to turn my hobby of cake decorating into a business. I'm trying to work out the legal side of it, and I don't think my kitchen set up will be suitable. I'm waiting on a call from my council to discuss this.

I'm also looking at hiring a commercial kitchen as an alternative. I wish I lived near you as your setup sounds ideal but sadly I live all the way over in Perth WA. I'm not sure what advice you are able to give me, but anything you can offer I'd really appreciate! If you know of anything in Perth similar to your setup PLEASE point me in the right direction. Or if you could advise me of the requirements for a home kitchen to make it meet the minimum requirements I'd appreciate that also.

Really anything you could tell me would probably help get me one step closer to my goal and I'd be forever in your debt!
