Default Charging for phone line installation

My new business is running from my home office and as a part of my business I'll need a phone line (I need to receive faxes too). My house doesn't have a phone line connected, as its relatively new and we run our phone through VOIP. A VOIP line for the business cannot be set up.

Can the cost of connecting a phone line to the house solely for business use be paid by the business (it is a pty ltd company), or would this be a personal cost?

Also, I'm not all up to speed on how fax numbers work, but do I need a seperate line aswell for faxing, or is this integrated into the phone line?

Consider a fax/email service like Utbox instead. I signed up with them several months ago and I've found it much simpler and cheaper than worrying about a landline.

Thanks for the suggestion Wendy. I was looking to receive via MBox and send via traditional line, however Utbox's pricing structure looks like it will solve all my faxing issues in one.

I do still have the issue with the phone line however, as I'll need to have a dedicated business line for sending/receiving phone calls.

Hi Cjay.

I'm not an accountant but as the line will be a dedicated business service, I would expect that it could be paid for by the company (if the account is opened under the company name). Keep in mind that business line rental is generally more expensive than residential.

As Wendy suggests, services like utbox can provide your fax needs. Alternatively, you could get a fax duet service which is essentially a second number 'piggy backing' the primary line. A Duet service will add around $6 or $7 dollars per month to your line rental.

Thank you Wendy, I never knew such a service existed. I've been looking for fax solution without having to install a phone line and this seems to answer all my needs.

I signed up for the trial period and it's working so far. The cost effectivenenss is very impressive. Renting desk space in an office, which is used by several other small businesses, its a plus in so many ways.
