Default Bookkeeping Qualifications/Courses

Hi everyone.

Have done some basic bookkeeping stuff, but wondered what course pathway is considered good these days for some offerning BK services?

Seems that:
Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping)

is the best all-round/overall course to do.

Any particular training school, etc?
Anyone thoughts or other suggestions?

Many thanks.

Hi Dave

Not sure of any specific courses by name but most done in TAFE are great as they're hands on with lots of practical case studies.

Hopefully the other bookkeepers on this Forum will help with specifics.

Will this be another service to add alongside your IT services?

Cert iv is the Mininum requirment to be a bookkeeper. There is also a requirement to join a Bookkeeping Association Like Instute of Certified bookkeepers or Bookkeeping instute of Australia, and to have indemity insurance and 2 references from clients you have serviced for more then 2 years. or be under the direction of an accountant.

Im Currently doing the one through CENGAGE and i dont recomend it. The first activity asked me to go to a website that no longer exsists and by the time i had a responce from the tutor to go to the next one 2 days had passed. the Assignments are not worded in a way that you can understand what they want and if i had the choose i would choose another online course.
My Brother suggestered KAPLAN. But was more expensive. But as i have worked out. You get what you pay for in this world.

The ICB has a list of the providers at http://downloads.icbglobal.org/au/Bo...ificate_IV.pdf it would be a good place to start have a look in the forums of the providers and see what sort of problems the students are having might help. If you do go to CENGAGE am happy to help with assignments as i have HD on the ones i have done so far. Just email me. The cost of cengage is $202 per month or around $2400 for the year.
Hope this helps.
Carolyn

Hi FletcherTax.

Yes, hopefully bookkeeping can go beside my IT services.

Thanks to all so far.

Hi Dave

I would recommend for most cost effective method go through and do a course at TAFE for a few hundred dollars, and while you do that look for specific Bookkeeping courses run by other professionals in the industry for specific on the job case studies, this could also led to work if you pass there course

Similar to what ITP & H&R Block do for accountants that wish to work during tax session

PM if this is of interest and I can supply more info.

Hi Dave,

I personally just recently completed my accounting course in TAFE. It has naturally improved my accounting side of my business. The course isn't too difficult (nothing compared to uni) so it gives you the ability to attend classes at night should you want to do it part time.

Regards
Warren
