Hi

You might like to look at our free Accounting Software Review Pack that Software Shortlist launched recently. This covers independent reviews of most of the top Small Biz accounting software products including: MYOB, Xero, Saasu, Quickbooks, Simply Accounting, Clarity Accounting, etc.

Limited time free download link is: http://www.softwareshortlist.com/pro...e_reviews.html

It also discusses SaaS vs desktop software, etc. Hope this helps in the accounting software search!

cheers,
Craig

Hi Rony,

I started off as a sole trader just like yourself.

I was testing XERO and it was really slow, AND MYOB was too expensive, see here for more info:

...at the end, I switch to Cashflow Manager and it works like a breeze.

I thought this end of financial year checklist guide may help you if you intend to try Cashflow Manager:

I've spent the last hour finalising y june 30 accounts, running Xero over a G3 mobile internet connection and its been fine. When I get in to the office and connect over ADSL it just flys! What were you running over when you found it slow MyCashFlow?

Cheers, Rhys

Hi Rony, here is a link to the FLYING SOLO article "How to choose accounting software" [I wrote it] if you answer these questions in the forum, we are in a better position to assist you.
Hi Heather,
Great article, thanks for referencing it. I'm in the process of setting up a small service based business from scratch (an innovative idea), and am agonizing about which accounting package to use. Starting from scratch has its advantages, ie., no legacy system. I think that I'd be best with a cloud based solution, so that I can do some accounting while i'm in the truck waiting for a customer, and I have heard that for entry level, I am basically looking at Xero and Sassu. I've had a look at both websites, but as a bit of a neophyte, I'm still not sure which would be best, of if there are other more suitable options. The accountant I have spoken to so far prefers MYOB, but I'm not sure its right for me. Perhaps you could help?
My requirements are as follows:
Compliance: Needs to comply with TO, GST, BAS
Costs: I'm a startup,,, low cost at the start would be great! I don't mind paying once the biz is positive cashflow.
Platform: Mac and iPad
Simultanious users: Its only me at the moment, but could be useful for my accountant (not chosen yet) to view at the same time as I do.
Accountant pref: My current contact prefers MYOB, but I have not engaged him yet, and I'm not sure if MYOB is best for me.
Features: POS would be a plus, no payroll at the moment, but I do plan to have another employee or two within a year. Its a service business, but i will be renting products to customers, so tracking could be a plus.
Add-ons: I'm considering an add-on offered by Vonigo.com, which dumps info in quickbooks format. (Maybe this is actually generic?)
Upgrade Path: I am hoping to build a successful franchise model over a couple of years, and having a system that franchisees can use easily would be a definite plus.
Support: how is it for Xero, Sassu? I have not got the experience.
