Default Xero

Hi guys,

Just a quick one regarding Xero. Does anyone happen to know if they are looking at expanding their programs to suit larger businesses? I am looking at replacing MYOB and need to be able to still manage payroll and inventory. I have only had a very quick look at Xero but I was very impressed with what I saw, but unfortunately it doesn't suit my needs.

Hi Bob

In reply to question on Payroll and Inventory. If you go onto Xero's website and search Find Advisors and Solutions there you will find in tab Find Advisors & Solutions featuring the various companies whose programs integrate into Xero. Inventory Provider "Unleased" http://www.unleashedsoftware.com/ "Lets Trade" is in Beta mode http://www.letstrade.com/ there is a blog on Xero's website with an overview and video showing just how easy it is to setup and implement. Payroll Providers 4x ADP http://www.adppayroll.com.au/en-au/s...-payroll.aspx; ePayroll http://www.epayroll.com.au/; Paycycle http://www.paycycle.com.au/homeblack/xeroblack and Webpayroll http://www.webpayroll.com.au/

If you follow the links to the various providers and have a look at their offerings am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. All of the above integrate seemlessly into Xero.

Hi Bob,

I am just starting the process of researching new software for a client. The client wants online accounts and needs inventory as well. Two packages that I am looking at are the quickbooks online which is their enterprise package and saasu. Saasu has had some decent reviews so I was going to have a closer look. It does have a free trial of 20 entries per month. My first concern is how friendly it is for accountants.

Cheers
Scott

Hi Bob,

In specific answer to your questions - yes Xero will be adding in both basic payroll and basic inventory later this year. Haven't seen these yet, so don't know how much funcitonality they will offer - if not enough the Jill is spot on, the various add on modules provide some really easy and really powerful options to extend Xero.

My recommendations are Unleashed for inventory (Viridity is now one of the first Unleashed partners in Australia) and Paycycle for payroll (we have a number of clients now running Paycycle and the feedback has been great). The ease of integration of each of these is stunning, and the ability to add on other apps as you need them (e-commerce, point of sale, whatever) means Xero can grow and expand with your business needs.

Scott's comments below also relevant for you - Saasu has similar functionality - I just think Xero offers a better overall solution (obvious disclosure here - I am a Xero dealer) & that Xero coupled with Unleashed offers a far more powerful inventory solution than either Saasu or QB.

Also note that QB online is not a true cloud app - it is a desktop app that is hosted. A subtle - but really important - difference. I wrote a blog on this a few weeks ago - http://bit.ly/dyWafe

Cheers, Rhys

Bob,

Xero is a good accounting system but there is no Payroll nor Inventory. Using an external system is mostly "ok" as long as you can live with data not always being perfect. E.g. generate invoice both from the inventory management and inventory system could make your stock info out of sync which, well, not sure how much it affects your business but if you work with exact inventory levels and multiple people at the same time working on the file, it can be a big bummer.
Payroll, no clue how it's done by the partners of Xero.

MYOB ... I would not get close to it by a million miles. Maybe their new cloud version whenever that will be.

Saasu is good. True, it's not as sexy as Xero but is has the lot including Payroll and Inventory. I found Saasu very easy to use and understand and my background is IT not Accounting. At www.OneSaas.com we integrated with them a bunch of other products (Google Contacts, FreshBooks, Business Catalyst, eBay, Campaign Monitor and lots more) so you can get good data migration in and out to simplify your processes. It's a big advantage to if you have data everywhere in the cloud.

Cost wise (for 20 employees)
- Xero + Unleashed + ePayRoll = $113.85 / month (+extra costs on ePayRoll for the payrolls and statements)
- Saasu: $25
Difference: $1000 / year

Regards,
Corneliu

PS>> Disclosure: We are a technical partner of Saasu but so we are of lots of other companies due to the type of integration work we do.

Hi Rhys,

I hadn't looked at the Xero/addon option because at first glance it would cost 3 times as much than the saasu option since they need multicurrency. That being said I hadn't ruled it out if the value was there. If you don't mind could you explain why you think unleashed offers more than saasu.

Cheers
Scott

Hi Spongebob...

Check out www.saasu.com its a complete Cloud Accounting Solution and if you were impressed with Xero you'll love Saasu!

I had an Accountant say to me yesterday that they had looked at MYOB Live, Quickbooks Online, Xero, and they said to me "Saasu blows them all away!"

Cheers, Geoff

Hey Guys (Geoff / Scott / Corneliu),

Really don't want to get into a head to head argument on this, it really doesn't help the potential user reach an informed decision: for the record Saasu is (in my humble opinion) a great product. I just happen to prefer Xero.

But also for the record if we're going to debate the merits lets get the facts right. Independent reviews from Software Shortlist & PC User have both in the past few months ranked Xero ahead of Saasu, so it seems to me fair to say Xero must have something going for it.

Of course each prospective client's needs are unique, so it really is a question of matching those needs to the functionality of the products available. To simply quote that "Saasu blows them all away" doesn't make much sense. It blows away all these products, in all circumstances for all clients? Get real!

Not sure Corneliu why you believe that having your inventory in a separate database means having to "live with data not always being perfect", whereas you are confident that you can integrate Saasu with "other products (Google Contacts, FreshBooks, Business Catalyst, eBay, Campaign Monitor and lots more)" without problems. Note that I am not suggesting that having data in multiple databases does not create some issues (though these can be managed), rather I am disagreeing with the idea in your post that having multiple databases only creates issues between Xero & Unleashed, not between Saasu and "other products".

And as for the comment "Payroll, no clue how it's done by the partners of Xero", the answer is really simple - one click. Happy to show you.

The costings in Corneliu's post - hhhmmmm, I'm sure there are many clients with just that combination of not too many employees, no multi currency, not too much complexity in their stock, etc who could get all their needs met by Saasu's $25 version. Of course if they needed multi currency, or if they needed more complex stock, or if they need automated pays, and so on they could be paying $35 per month, or $95, or $180, or even POA! Then the price comparison to Xero looks very different. I should aslo add that I don't have any clients paying as much as $113.85 per month for their software.

As I said at the top Saasu is an excellent product. After looking at both Saasu and Xero late last year I opted for Xero both for my own business and as a solution to recommend to clients. I did so because I felt Xero had a number of advantages (and that these were more substantive than "looking sexy", but on that one, damn I gotta agree with you it does look good).

More importantly the origin of this thread posed a very simple question: is Xero going to be enhanced to include payroll and inventory, to which the answer is yes.

So Bob if you're still reading after all this, good luck picking through all these options. I would be happy to chat to you about the pros and cons of these various options (and if I come to the conclusion that Saasu is the best option for you I would tell you so),

Cheers, Rhys

I have a client who is an accountant and he loves XERO for his clients. I can't go into great detail because I'm not an accountant myself. However it did come up in discussion and he's getting a fair few of his clients onto this. No idea in relation to inventory but it defintely has 3rd party providers for payroll
