I am looking for someone to build a new website for our family's underfloor heating business based in the UK.

I am looking for someone who can provide a range of services from website design, e-commerce facilities, web2.0 marketing, ongoing SEO, etc. I'm not just looking for someone who can build me a website, I need someone with a bit of Marketing clout and a track record of success.

To be honest you appear to be looking for a rare individual the skill set for designing a site and implementing an e-commerce solution is very far from SEO and basically I am yet to find a reason to do social media (if thats what you
mean by web 2.0) except to waste your client's money.

I can do SEO and customise a website/blog and plenty of others design pretty websites - the question is what are you actually trying to achieve.

A better brief might be what are your business goals for the website and then people could respond with proposal to answer your needs.

I agree with Lis to a certain extent (not on the social media - I've had a LOT of financial success with that) - but you are looking for a few different people, there - not really one.

@leela I can see the place for social media for building your business brand - which is what i assume you do - but the OP is talking about a furniture store - no one don't needs tweets from furniture stores - maybe an email list with this month's specials - but I can't see social media working for a product based business.

I'd like to offer you another perspective....here is the text of my ezine for next week...

Wikipedia defines Twitter as a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read updates called Tweets.

Now, we have all heard about celebrities tweeting about this and that including Hugh Jackman’s tweet about relaxing on the harbour in front of the Opera Centre.

But, what can organizations expect beyond the networking basics?

Well, you need to have a gameplan first which includes:

• Some research into what people are saying or not saying about your business. There’s a great little tool called Twazzup for that.

• Some objectives... like increase revenue or reduce costs or to build social equity. ie. your brand

• A strategy... please keep reading.

• And finally, the right technology platforms to implement your strategy.

Strategy? You can have various strategies.

For instance, you can use Twitter to make Sales just like DellOutlet did when they added $1,000,000 in revenue.

Or you can use it for Marketing like HomeDepot does when they announce new product launches.

And what about Customer Service... the JetBlue airline advises of delays using Twitter.

And B2B Communications like event updates.

However... the Really Big Point is that conversations are taking place on Twitter every day either with you or without you. If you don’t want to participate then that’s fine but at least listen... because it’s about how your customers relate to your business which is not always exactly how you planned.

A word of caution.... Who really is knowledgeable when it comes to social media? Lots of people think they know it from a personal perspective but not from a business perspective.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!

I detest brand building for small businesses and think it's a total waste of time and money ...

I ONLY engage in activities that have a HARD ROI. I've seen retail businesses use social media very effectively ...

ahhh ... you see, there-in lies the issue you'd be having with it. A furniture store would NOT tweet about furniture or use Twitter to grow their list. I freaking hate that ... Oh I'm going to go on Twitter and just post stuff about my store. That misses the WHOLE point of social networking.

a. it's social.
b. it's networking.

If you walked into a networking event and just told everyone about your furniture, what kind of success would you have?

Why would it be any different online?

The whole point of social networking is that it gives you the opportunity to INTERACT with clients and prospects and probably MOST importantly, with potential partners.

If you take the limited view of posting advertising material on social networking sites and then getting grumpy because no one buys within a couple of weeks and then go around protesting that it's a waste of time and money, you've totally missed the point and the power of social networking.

I've LITERALLY made more than $40,000 from LinkedIn ALONE this year ... not by posting advertising material, but by offering value to prospects and partners and solving their problems without expectation of anything in return.

Well I don't know what happened to the OP but this has turned into a fascinating thread! Having failed marketing101, through lack of ability to take the subject seriously, I am probably using the term "business branding" wrongly. I mean as a solo business owner people get the idea that Lis does XYZ on the internet so if they want to do XYZ themselves she maybe able to help. I do that my talking about what I do on my blog, and far more importantly help others - which is I guess how you are using linkedln, twitter etc

I totally agree that you have to give information away for free before you can expect anyone to trust you enough to buy from you and I guess that's how I "brand" myself - plus using a consistent pic/name around the net so people recognise me. If you thought I meant a pretty logo and business card - nope haven't got either of those!
