Default Does anyone know a computer guru?

Hi,

I am located in the Inner West of Sydney and am looking for someone (who isn't too expensive) to help me do a full back up and clean install on my computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advace

My son may be able to assist. He's doing IT at Ultimo Tafe and does part time maintenance, usually macs, at around $30 an hour. If you're interested send me an email carl@carltoons.com.au and I'll put him in touch. Cheers, Carl.

One of the local computer clubs may be able to assist for very reasonable prices - the going rate is often literally 'choc-chip cookies' or 'pizza and soft drink' for small jobs.

Hi Jennifer,

A word of warning based on very painful past experience and especially if your computer is business critical: A new hard drive is cheap enough for me to suggest that you get somebody to back up everything, remove your current hard drive, install the new one and then do a clean install and restoring your files on the new drive. The benefit of this is that if something goes wrong, you can just swop back your original hard drive and keep going.

Regards,

Chris

I can recommend someone who fixes the problems caused by $30 hour technicians.

If you value your information peoples, then get the job done properly.

No disrespect intended but if a $30 an hour tech destroys all your data accidentally, the chances he has liability insurance are slim.

A reputable IT company would not be able to turn the lights on even in Adelaide for $30 an hour.....

Jennifer,

I suggest go to www.computertroubleshooters.com.au we are Australia's largest IT support franchise specialising in small business. We have someone in Newtown or Pyrmont.

I would suggest that you invest in the IT in your business, much like if needed business coaching you wouldn't head down to the local football field to see who could help you.

IT is one of the largest risks in Small Business often a whole business working off one computer disk. A bit like running a plane on one engine - you would want to make sure it was serviced properly and that you had a parachute.

Best of luck......Nick

Hi Jennifer,

I would recommend having a chat to Troy or John from Geeks Online. They are local to you and experts in this sort of work. They are a professional business, so the ongoing support and service is there and invaluable.

All the best
