It was great!

I went in with all the advice swimming around in my head, and felt very comfortable and confident. The QR codes came in super handy a few times, as a filler to talk about. Some people were really interested in them.

The idea of speed networking was great, however the space was quite small, and they had us sitting opposite each other and people directly either side of you, so you REALLY had to concentrate to hear the person opposite you! It was a bit of a scream fest towards the end.

But the chatting before/after was great, and that is where I made my most promising contact. I have a coffee meeting on Monday morning. I also have 3 new Linked In contacts.

I enjoyed the 'vibe' of the chapter and have joined. They have a networking event each month. I will have a chance as a new member to speak to everyone about my business at an upcoming meeting. It is a very active chamber and it was a great mix of businesses.

So very happy I went. Thanks for all the support and advice.

I went to my first CC meeting recently (Williamstown!) and after the presentation.. found myself kind of standing against the wall, looking around, going "omg.. how do i do this? I have to just go up and talk to these people.."

Which.. eventually.. I did.

our event was a bit different.. not structured like yours sounds.. but my feedback is.. just bite the bullet.. be yourself, be personable... and don't view everyone you meet as revenue.. thats how I looked at it.. "not trying to make money.. just trying to meet people.."

If you are not a big brand, networking is by far the best way to become known, to get recognised around town and to source reasonable leads.

However, I am a member of two very well known networking groups/organisations and yet it is very difficult to find new members to join these groups.

Just be yourself, and remember events such as these aren't about selling, they're about getting to know some new people in the industry. Try and find some kind of common ground, doesn't even have to be business related.

I'm planning on going to my first Chamber of Commerce networking event next month. I'm hoping the nerves leave early so I can have fun.
