Default Looking for an Accountability Buddy

I'm looking for someone (or two) to join me once a week as an accountability buddy.

I see us meeting for an early morning coffee, preferably Monday to kick off the week, around 7-7.30am so as not to interfere with the day's work. We would each set specific goals for the coming week, with measurable results, and consequences for not reaching our goals, and commit to achieving them. Then we would report our results the following week, and so on.

I'm NOR but would be happy to meet in the city. Nothing too structured or formal, I'm not looking for a three hour coffee and chat session lol I just need to be accountable to someone outside of my support network...if you're interested, please PM me.

It's a great idea Wendy, and I can highly recommend it. I do the same with another business owner once a fortnight, for 1.5hours. It's amazing how just talking out loud can put it all in perspective!

Wow, that's a great idea. Something I will definitely consider when I get a bit further.

Good luck Wendy!

Hey Wendy,

I know it is not quite the same as face to face, but you have inspired me to think outside the box. What about a Skype catchup?

I know you can do group chat for free on there, and it might be a good way for like minded people across the country to connect?

Glad to have inspired you AgentMail

That is a good idea ! I have actually met with someone this morning and we're going to run with it for a few weeks and see how we go.

I was surprised at how many replies and positive comments I received through several networks...seems like a lot of soloists are looking for the same thing and the Skype option sounds like a good one.

Will keep it in mind if my new buddy doesn't work out !

Good luck, I think it is a great idea - I tried to do the same with a group on Facebook to have a set time we would all do some cold calling. Unfortunately didn't happen, but I think having some accountability - at least to have to say 'Ummm nooo I didn't actually get that done' would drive people to stay on track. I might start the Skype idea as a separate thread and see if we can get something happening Of course as the inspiration, you are welcome to jump in at any time.;

Geezo Wendyroo, I'd totally be down for that except that part of the whole reason I'm a soloist is because I have a broken wife and a million kids.

Would love to be your e-accountability buddy though. We could start via email until I get so crazy that I build a website to do all the goal-setting and reminding for us (like I did with my writer's group).

Good luck finding somebody though, and email me and let me know who you're hooked up with so we can have coffee in Northbridge sometime.

What an awesome idea. I might be able to focus more if I had someone like that.

Thought I'd give an update, prompted by another new thread looking for something similar.

Every Monday morning I meet with my first buddy (yes, there's more than one lol) who I had already started a friendship with, and it's been working extremely well. We follow a strict timetable covering achievement, reflection, hurdles and goals for the coming week. We don't get off topic, and start the week on a really positive note. Our goals can range from one to four, in any area of personal or business, and neither judges the other. I use these meetings for specific, individual tasks I need to achieve for that week.

Then, once a month I meet with my second buddy, someone I had only met through a facebook network group. This one is totally different. It's more a general discussion time, still limited or we'd chat all day !! This meeting is for my big picture stuff and allows me to sit back from the day-to-day details and check that my general direction is still right.

I'm finding both buddies are working for me at the moment, one male and one female. No doubt, we will move past each other at some point as all things do, but for now it's been a really positive exercise.
