Long time lurker, first time poster.

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around Flying Solo for a few months now, and as I seem to be here every day I thought it was time I spoke up and said hello. So, Hello.

I've been a freelance graphic designer on and off for the last 12 years, I was always working for somewhere else, but designing in my spare time. When the clients started to pile up, I figured it was time to jump in full-time. I did that just over two years ago, and I haven't looked back.

I'm well aware of how lucky I was to have an established client base to start from, but for the first 6 months it felt like the work came first, and somewhere along the line I realised I needed to run a business too!

Hi Helen, it's awesome to see another designer on here and, Sam, thank you for posting the link as we've all been having a great chinwag on all things design and love new members.

It must've been great to start with an existing client base. That's really the most sensible way to do it if you can. I remember the first time I 'landed' a client. It was ... indescribable (that's funny for a writer). *grin*

Well, I'd better keep moving, but I'll look forward to seeing you over in the GDG (Graphic Design Group)!
