Default G'day!

Hi all!

As I've just registered, I thought I should say "hello".

I actually have had my own business (sole trader) for about 2 years now but in fact have not actually made the leap as I have a regular job that pays the bills. I started the sole trader side of things as my camerawork started producing the occasional job where I could make a bit of money or do a tit-for-tat deal and it was a way of expensing my not inexpensive equipment costs.

That said, I have been receiving the 'weekly wisdom' for a while and usually find it an interesting read.

Online forums are very very valuable and given that I use camera tech forums extensively, the bulb popped that I should do the *same* for soloing when I read the latest 'wisdom'.

The emergence of web stock footage sites means that there is now the opportunity for people like me to develop a small income stream with a good enough clip collection but it's not a decent income. I'm investigating another camera-related idea though and if it looks like it could produce regular income, I might make the leap - if I am brave enough.

I've been reading some of the threads already and there are some real gems of comments I've found. Hopefully in the future I can contribute too...

Glad to be here, Tim

Hi Tim,

Welcome! You're right, they are an extremely valuable resource and hopefully you will benefits from these as much as from your camera tech forums.

Look forward to seeing you around.

Sam

Hi Tim, your work sounds very interesting. I'm a novice filmer/snapper, but I've already found it to be quite addictive. I had to laugh at my first attempts at video though; they made me seasick!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading your posts as I hope to soak up some tips!

Again, good luck on your flying solo journey.

I think everyone at some stage has done the "shakycam" video. Fortunately a lot of video cameras these days now come with pretty good image stablizers and with them turned on (and a steady hand), it can make footage a lot more watchable. That said, I find myself almost never shooting anything without a tripod these days.

More than happy to blather on about this stuff! I've found the videos on flyingsolo.com.au now and so having a look at them. Quite well done although I'm personally not a big fan of highly animated lower thirds.

Ciao..

Hi Tim,

Glad to have you on board.

I love photography too and was hoping to get back into it. So I look forward to your expertise and hopefully will be able to call myself a professional one day (I live in hope).

Cheers
Lucki

I think that means the ticker type things you see on high quality shows like Fox news
