Default Which are best- Menus

In todays website designs which type of menus are best, static (as on my site Aberlady Pages ) or drop down. From a design point of view i imagine drop down to be better as a lot of page links can be put in a smaller space but as the visitor is king maybe that trade-off is not worth it if they find them more annoying to use.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I prefer using drop-down, because they usually include more options and I can get to where I want to go faster. More options also has the benefit that I get a better overall view of what's on the site.

And looking at things from the business side, I like drop-down menus because they give me more room on the page for content (more flexibility with design options).

Then you can complicate it by top or side menu... !

It always depends, in my opinion. Complexity of the menu structure, look and feel you are going for, page lengths, etc etc.

Drop-down menus generally allow cleaner page design. Just be aware they can be difficult in the case of touch-screen devices that don't have the equivalent of a 'mouse-over' gesture.

Always make sure that where you have a top-level menu that drops down to expose sub-menus, that the sub-menu links are all available from the page that shows when the top-level menu is clicked.

Cheers,

Michael

I would opt for dropdown.
