Default Freelance Proofreader newbie

Hi Everyone,

I have just started up a proofreading business (Clear Words Australia) and have done my own website (harder than I thought!). I have never worked on my own before, having been an accountant and an IT project manager previously, so the freelance thing is a bit scary. I'm also out of my comfort zone, but loving what I do. I'd be really keen to join a proofreading/editing forum if there is one. I could do with all the help I can get!

Cheers
Gillian Griffin

Hey Gillian. Welcome to Flying Solo. Can't say I know of any proofreading forums but there are plenty of proofreaders on this site, and you can also interact with proofreaders, copywriters etc on Twitter.

Best of luck with your venture.

Another tip would be to include your web address in your signature. Cheers

Hey Gillian,

Welcome to Flying Solo and congrats on stepping out of your comfort zone - many people often don't have the guts to do that!

As tonyk mentioned, adding your signature to your signature is a good start - towards the top of the page there is a grey horizontal line that has Control Panel, etc on it. Click on Quick Links and you will see Edit Signature... start from there

If help is what you are after then you have come to the right place. Use the search box towards the top of the page to search for past posts that may answer your questions. If you don't find an answer then please feel free to post your question/topic in the appropriate section and I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction.

Again, welcome

Donna

Congratulations on taking the first steps Gillian. I also came from IT Project Management and it is pretty scary/exciting getting out there on your own. If you're interested in connecting with some non-threatening Flying Solo business owners, have a think about joining a Meetup in your area. Not sure where you're based, but you can find the details in the forums and, if you're in Melbourne, feel free to come to ours.

Hey Debbie, as I said to Gillian, you can add your website in your signature by going to the control panel section of your profile. Will help increase your exposure
