Default G'day I am in the very early stages

G'day to all

I am in the very early stages of trying to plan a small business operation from home. I have for a long time provided a Home Computing service to friends and family (earning only the odd carton here and there), but now believe that perhaps that I could extend that to earning some real money, but whilst continuing in my current profession which due to the shift work will allow me the time to conduct a small home business.

What I want to do is test the water, in my local community to get an idea of how popular my service may be. There don't seem to be too many other people in my area doing similar. What would be the best way of doing this? and what do I need to do to ensure I am doing things lawfully, but at the same time taking into consideration that I do not want to invest too much money on something that might not work.

I addition my wife does not work, and someone suggested that she could take the ABN out in her name to reduce our joint overall taxation, is that legal?

So much to learn about and some of the government sites seem full of jargon. All your help and advice would be appreciated.

Congratulations on your bravery in starting a new business.

I have no idea about the tax side of things, and I am a little unsure of what a home computing service is.

However if you already have an established service which you already deliver to your friends and family how about asking them to refer you to their friends and associates.

If your home computing service involves personal assistant types of jobs, you may want to to register as a virtual assistant.

If your home computing service involves repairing, or installing software perhaps you could speak to the computer selling stores in your area for a mutually benefical referral arrangement.

Good luck
