Default New Bookkeeping Business

Hi I'm John,

I've just started up a new bookkeeping service that I hope one day might be a more than solo operation.

I have just been running a recruitment business fro the past 7 years so this will be an interesting change in pace.

I have already found this a useful forum and look forward to both learning and contributing.

Congratulations on taking the step into your own business.

I would be intersted in seeing if 'setting up a chart of accounts' would be in your services list?

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for the welcome.

It doesn't officially sit on out list but it probably should. I love good chart of accounts (in a manly / books kinda way). Nothing annoys me more than seeing a lazy chart put together where people just bundle all income / expenses into a couple of accounts.

It does take a bit of time to put it together right, and a good session getting to understand the business, but its definitely worth it - no doubt.

Well you have inspired me to add it to our list in some way shape or form - and as I am looking for topics to start a little bit of blogging, The importance of a good chart of accounts to understanding your business, sounds like a good topic to me

Can't agree more. I imagine the reason it's not specifically on your list is that it's so intrinsic to everything so is assumed. Having the right set-up at the beginning makes everything so much more efficient and productive - whether the chart of accounts or any of your systems......
