New Online Retail

Hi!

I have been in the research part of my new upcoming small business for quite some time now and am scared that I am very close to reaching the point where I have too much research and very little action!

My venture is an online retail store that will specialise within the homewares sector. I note that the majority of contributors on the forum are those who have a service or consultancy related business, and whilst the insight and advice provided from everyone is invaluable, I would love to hear from those within the retail business side who have launched as a web based store and hear about their experiences. Also would love to hear any experiences from people who are currently importing products. How does the conversion rates affect your planning and on-sale price?

Looking forward to contributing to the forum and providing advice on how I found the experience of launching my own new business!

Wow. How exciting. I don't have much advice to offer on starting a web based store but I would love to follow your progress. How are you going to launch? Do you already have a list to market to? How will you drive traffic to your site? These questions are all running through my mind in relation to my next venture as well ;-)

hi, i've got an online store too....
yes, currency exchanged has definitely affected us significantly...like all stock are now 30% more for us to import into australia....and we cant really afford to pass on the cost to our customers...simply because the market is just too competitive, and customers are just not willing to pay MORE..during eco downturn...

stop planning too much i'd say (mind you, my previous life was a 'planner', yet i don't believe in planning far too long terms), take some actions and prepare to respond quickly as you go...

You can never do too much research, in fact I suspect the research is only about to begin, because once your up and running you will need to know who is selling what and when they change prices bring in new lines offer specials and go out of busines because you have managed to scoop the pool
