In your last sentence I'm not sure if you meant to say unaddressed mail or direct mail, but I will discuss direct mail. There are a few tricks you can use to determine if your mail is getting through to the right person. One technique is to include an offer, but you must be careful here because a weak offer will only give you weak results. The second technique is to include a sheet that will update their details with you, they simply fill it in and fax it back to you. And thirdly, invite them to do some good for the environment and receive the next newsletter by email. You get the idea.

Email marketing has huge potential, but you need to make a connection with the customer straight away. The technique I use has so far given me 100% response rate to email marketing. You then follow that up with a direct mail campaign that encompasses the customers needs.

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark

Given that many marketing vehicles are lucky to get a 3% response rate, 100% is nothing short of miraculous. Does your company also assist with getting the 'list' itself? For a lot of us, our target market is small business owners, many home-based, so getting to that market (without wastage) would be ace.

I guess 100% does sound to good to be true, but as I said there is a technique involved. It's not a mass mailer campaign, it's something altogether difference, but it gets results. A failed email campaign runs the risk of alienating your potential customer even further. Getting a list can be done several ways, you can buy lists as you probably already know or you can target specific areas, or postcodes, or even PO boxes in certain postcodes. What your hoping to achieve by doing this is getting some interest in your product, then they become part of your customer database. Mail out's soon pay for themselves if done correctly and at the right time.
