Default direct mail & printing

Hi everyone, thanks for having me.

If anyone needs a hand or advice on printing or direct
mail needs for their business, I would be happy to
provide such services to the members here for free.

I've just started a new business, I work by myself and I
understand the importance of networking early on in new
business for it's continued success. Sharing our
resources and knowledge will help us all.

Regards,

Mark Prosser.

Welcome to the forum, Mark!

While I don't do a lot of direct (print) marketing at the moment, I'm quite interested in personalised printing within the actual marketing material. I remember seeing a great piece of advertising material a while back when I was doing my adverting course. I believe it was for BRW magazine ... Anyway, the ad was actually personalised. Seeing my name really 'cut through'. In fact, I thought it was so clever that I've kept it to this day.

At any rate, can you please give us your website details so we can 'look you up'? :-)

Hi Mark,

cheers for that. Do you do printing for flyer distributions also? I've been interested in typical conversion rates for flyer distributions vs direct mail? Do you have any stats of that? I haven't beable to find anything in my google searches.

I think I read direct mail was around 2-3% conversion, so I imagine non-direct mail would be very low.. Any idea of what kind of sample size you need to trial to get any solid stats?

Cheers,

Thanks Renee! Yes, personalised printing or Variable data as it's called in the industry is very effective. You can have a look at www.mergeprintmail.com.au, but the website is still under construction - just make your way through that gap in the barriers and watch out for the cement - we just laid it!

Yes, flyer distribution ROI is much lower than direct mail. You can get hit rates up to 80% with direct mail if you know your target market. Of course, a lot of the work begins with a good database. Non-direct mail is still useful, but it's more likely to be used by the big companies as an brand imprinting technique.

As I said Direct Mail conversion can range anyway between 1 and 80%. Even if you only get the business of one customer, a direct mail campaign can soon pay for itself!

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark, thanks for that; variable data was right on the tip of my (mental) tongue! Thanks for the warning about the cement; I'll be careful.

Hi Mark,

that's great thanks for that. We trying to attract the broad market at this stage, but also looking to identify some direct marketing possibilities also. Need to build our database a bit first, as we've only started up in the last few weeks.

cheers,
Mike

There are even possibilities without a database. You can also target specific postcodes, Business or Private PO Boxes with an unaddressed mail campaign. I'm going to be doing one myself in the next few months to businesses just in the Woolloongabba area of Brisbane. I'll send an introductory letter first, then follow up with a postcard a few weeks later.

Thanks Mark, good ideas. We've done a wee bit of direct marketing to Beach resorts through email How do you see the benefits of direct mail vs direct email? Obviously being seen as Spam through email. Also how do you ensure your direct mail is getting through to the person in the organisation that you intend for or determine that person?

Thanks a lot,
Mike
