I don't think any of Apple's competitors would be any different. Apple just gets targeted by the media because writing about them sells papers.

I would blame ourselves; the consumers that want amazing technology at ridiculously low prices. We're all guilty.

I agree with Blue Penguin - and it's not just Apple. In that article it also says,

Apple is not the only electronics company doing business within a troubling supply system. Bleak working conditions have been documented at factories manufacturing products for Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lenovo, Motorola, Nokia, Sony, Toshiba and others.

There is now a new link on the Apple site about supplier responsibility

I don't even bother reading articles like that any more. There is constantly a target company who gets blamed for cheap and underage labour in an Asian country. And people still buy their products no matter what. Every "giant" has moved their factories there and almost everything we buy does come from there.

So my answer is - I'd buy Apple because I like it.

1. i dont believe anything without hearing the other side of the story no matter how shocking or horrific. I refuse to hand over my god given right to think for myself and seeing that the media regularly engages in self censorship, i take everything with a grain of salt until i hear a concrete response.

2. If this article is true, don't blame apple. Blame capitalism and consumerism which is all about maximising output with minimum input. WE want cheap and want more. Deadly mix. Doesn't bring us happiness but brings misery to those in the 3rd world.

3. yes i will continue to buy but also live within my means. forget interest free loans.

4. if you want to help alleviate the oppression against third world workers, become an activist and help with any revolution against dictators, tyrants and corporatocracy.

So goods are cheaper when they are made in Asia because people work for more hours, for less pay and in worse conditions than in the western world?

No that can't be! That's outrageous! And I thought it was cheaper to make goods there because they were cleverer than us and we are just too lazy to work.

Well there you go.....
