Anyone own/owned a brothel?

I have no ideas on starting one, but always wonder what it would be like to actually own or buy an existing one?

Are they recession proof?
Huge Profits????
Seasonal?
Pros - other then staff discount
Cons - Possibly affected by mafia type influences

No but I worked for a criminal lawyer in Sydney for many years and some of our clients were brothel owners.

If you're looking into it then I'd suggest you check the law in the State you intend to operate - as I think it's still illegal in some states to own a brothel.

You'll also need to 'befriend' the local vice squad!

I think the cons would far outweight the pros... Health issues, drug issues, client issues, reputation issues... The list goes on.

You'd almost certainly have to pay protection money.
I used to have a client who had a strip club. I only ever visited for professional reasons off course...
But he had to pay protection money to the local bikie gang, who also frequented the joint, wouldn't pay for their drinks, harassed the girls and started fights. Drove other punters away, and he had to close down, with a very water-tight lease to get out of.
It got nasty.
It's definitely NOT like it is in the movies.

I'm assuming you're trying to come from a "business" perspective however I do have to ask: have you worked IN the adult entertainment and/or sex industry yourself ?

The best brothel owners IMO are those who used to be workers who have a smart business head.

Honestly, there are better businesses to be involved with for those who have no experience with the adult entertainment/sex industry.

As has been mentioned by someone else, check the laws in your own state and you'll start to see the screwed up crap that a lot of sex workers have to deal with in re "laws"......


If you're still determined to go down this path, wait until an existing brothel is up for sale IMO and buy it.
