I always give xmas gifts for my major clients. I think its a nice little reminder of how special they are. Christmas is for giving and if you can afford to give then do it. We also have a policy where staff volunteer for a day over the xmas period which is a gift for the community we work in.

Our clients recieved a Sydney Harbour Bridgeclimb gift certificate last year. They are still talking about it and our workload took off this year. Perhaps it was Coincidence but I honestly think it was this gift that did the job. www.bridgeclimb.com.au check them out!

Hi,

Firstly please excuse my ignorance with this comment, but I think we all have so much to learn about the gift of giving...

Personally I don't give gifts, it's nicer to acknowledge achievements throughout the year at the time it occurs. Giving is expensive for those who run a small business, or just starting out and I think we have lost the idea of what giving is all about, as although many struggle, they continue to increase their debt and it's not the size of the gift, it's the thought.

My suggestion, if you are going to give, maybe arrange a Christmas card to thank your clients on a personal note and place an acknowledgment to a donation made to a committee i.e. cancer council, ACT Diabetes ....there are many others that need our support.

Just a thought!

Good deal for anyone looking at giving hampers to clients.

I don't agree about the bottle of wine. Not everyone drinks alcohol and it really is a gift that everyone reverts to when they can't think of something else. Sorry. At BNI we're encouraged to think creatively, give business books, or gifts that relate to what we do in business (unless of course you're in the wine business). Hubby and I have a LOT of bottles of wine here at home that have been given to us over the years and we're occasional drinkers. Guess our kids might inherit them one day.

If you really want to put a smile on your customers face, do what I do and give them a Pavlova with their personal name on it saying "Thank You". Innovation does wonders!!!

I also find that treating customers like your friends all year round builds a long lasting rapport rather than waiting till Xmas and offering them gift.

Yes, I know, you can't be friends with all of them...lol...

Wow .. varied ideas. Everyone has to determine what is appropriate for their business.

Good service, attention to detail and providing a great product are all expectations and should be high on the list of all businesses to achieve.

Increasingly though, our customers are more savvy and critical, harder to keep loyal and often have a wide choice suppliers knocking on their door.

As humans, we all love and need recognition, motivation, appreciation, incentive .. etc So, saying thank you shouldn't be such a big decision .. should it ?

As a business, I give donations through the year and include promotional offers that donate part of the sale to a charity ... so I am not a big believer of the 'donating on behalf of clients' idea.

Thank You is such a rare thing these days .. so whether it is a hand written card or a more substantial hamper or gift, you will stand out ... and you will feel great from the gift of giving and conveying acknowledgement to clients that have given you their business.
