Expressions of interest for QLD meet up groups

Hi all,

There are a few threads running at the moment seeking expressions of interest in getting new meet-up groups off the ground. To make things easier to find, I thought I'd collate them all under one heading per state.

If you're keen to meet up with like minded soloists in one of the following locations, please follow the link and register your interest on the relevant thread.

If your area isn't listed and you're keen to get something started, please do feel free to post details on the forum. We'll try to help you out by posting details of your gatherings on Facebook and twitter.

I am not sure what happend with the Sunshine coast group? My computer has been playing up and an absolutely flat out schedual has left me out of watching.
I think a SKYPE group would be the best Idea for the aspects of this so if any one is going to run for a bit of a lark. Including the spelling "that may actually come of something" (Heaven forbid the want but back the concept)
Skype is free and well abled for this type of operation.

Hi Jayne,

your post was at the top of the forum and I assumed I should follow it (I am looking for meetings / networking in Brisbane), but when I clicked on it and responded I went to a very old post for the Loop Events from Gina....

Is that where you wanted me to go, or is this just an old post that is no longer relevant? Sorry, new to FS and I assumed that because it was at the top of the forum that it was a recent post. It wasn't until I hit 'post' on the other one that I saw the warning that it was so old...

No worries, the meetings apparently still take place, but are no longer organised by Gina. There is one this Thursday at 10AM in the botanical gardens at Mt Coot-tha. I'll try to get to that one!

Having looked through this meet-up thread and having not seen CQ even mentioned, I'm not very hopeful...but I'd be so interested in starting up something if there is anyone else out there!

Hi Sarah,

I think your best bet will be to start a new one yourself. If you do, we'll help by giving it a plug on Facebook and Twitter, and in our Friday newsletter.

Since the meet-ups have started, we've observed a few things that can really help get them underway:

1. Rather than trying to get people to nominate a date that suits them, suggest a time and place that suits YOU, and mention in your thread whether you're open to other alternatives
2. Choose somewhere central to other businesses, and with easy parking
3. Suggest a regular catch-up time (e.g. every fortnight, or the 2nd wednesday of the month), and be prepared to continue for a while before it builds momentum.
4. Try not to kick off in school holidays.
