Default What Chicken S**t And Poor Circulation Have In Common

Today I did something I wasn't proud of.

I cancelled a booking I'd made on a room I was going to use for a seminar to promote my marketing consulting services.

After I'd drummed up enough courage to actually go ahead with it, I got cold feet (that's where the poor circulation bit comes from) and come Monday morning, I emailed Wayne, who had been so courteous to me, and told him that I couldn't follow through due to "an unforeseen circumstance."

I completely chickened out.

And I guess it was just a lack of confidence in my marketing ability. I put up a landing page for the event but I didn't think that I could get the 100 people I wanted coming to the event.

And frankly, I didn't have the experience I needed under my belt. At the time, I'd only been doing some "soft" consulting with a client who was paying me on contingency (who I hadn't help make any sales for yet). I did have a paying client yet.

I guess the lesson learnt here is two-fold:

1. don't bite off more than you can chew,
2. even though realistic people never get anywhere far in life, it's still important to be realistic as an entrepreneur.

Cheers,

-Johnson.

We all make mistakes - it's what you learn and do from the mistakes that's important.

Don't be so down on yourself - it's time to pick yourself up and start again.

  • Get back to planning
  • Send a thank you note to Wayne (or send a box of chocs) in appreciation of his encouragement
  • Don't be afraid if you get only 1 or 2 attendees next time.
  • You could change it all by saying - 'this is fantastic because you get all of my attention today'.
  • Make sure you have nibblies, coffee, tea etc at the seminar
  • Plan it through.
  • Don't be afraid - any attendees will be there because they WANT too be there.

You can do this. Just take one step back and start again.
Tenacity is keeping on despite everything.
Best wishes.

Hey Johnson

I thoroughly support Karen's comments but why don't you start with a teleseminar.

Nobody will know if a 100 people turn up or none.

Regardless, it will be good practice and a confidence booster.

WHAAAAAT!! you cancelled because you did not think you would get 100 to turn up???

Time for a reality check. For the average seminar, with well established marketing machines behind them often only 20 will turn up. I assume you are doing this as a pro, so get out there and do your stuff, no matter how many are there. Small crowd means you can divert and wing-it to make it more personal, deal with people more one-on-one.

Maybe also look at using SMS as booking confirmation - can boost attendance by up to 30%. PM me if you need details.
