Default Home based business ideas?

Hi all

I was talking to a friend over the weekend and they are looking to start a home based business due to illness. I came up with a few ideas but wondered what you all thought?

Do you have any ideas, what works for a home based business and what does not?

Any feedback would be great as they are doing it tough right now.

Have a good week

G

I think it really depends on their skill set. When you think about it, there are a vast range of professions which can work well from home;

Web designer
copywriter
SEO specialist
Computer technician
Data Entry

The list can go on forever.

If there are no previous skill sets that can be drawn on (and everyone has skills in some area), some people make very good living by buying and selling on Ebay and the like. If they can find some options to buy goods at auctions in bulk then resell individually on Ebay, this might be an option.

Perhaps you can (without being too personal) give a little more background on your friends situation/experience, so that FS members can provide a more detailed response?

I would eBay.
Very low start up cost and low risk, but potential is unlimited.
If you can find a good product sourcer, it's hard to lose.

Worked for us, turned 12k into 3 mil in about 5 years.

Was selling pool tables at first.
Cost $300 and were selling for about $1200 at the time.
Was making about $5000/week after only a couple of weeks after importing them.
Was only expecting to make hopefully $200-$300 extra per week to supplement my average wages at the time, but the market was good to us.
Quit my job right away and took off from there.

You can't just pick any product and expect to get lucky.
Need to do some market research first and test the market before buying big time stock.

Spider, that is a great success story indeed, do you recommend any of the courses, ebooks etc. about selling on Ebay? just wondered if in your experience they are worthwhile, as I have seen some courses for like $1,500 per day, and wondered if there was really that much content about how to list on Ebay.

I would have thought the key was to find a good product, try and arrange direct delivery to avoid the need to hold stock, and have clear and concise listings.

There's a fortune to be made selling "How to sell stuff on Ebay" ebooks on Ebay.

I would not bother with eBay courses.
You only need to lean the basics and you learn as you go.
You can pick up alot of info from the free eBay forums when starting.
Good photo's and clear simple description is all that's needed.
Put photo's within the listing so you don't have to pay extra for them and they can be large too.

Best to have an extra website to try and divert potential sales there (staying within the rules of eBay).
Also best to try and get potential customers to contact you directly.

These methods boost sales a long way.

Sinsational,

Good luck with your venture, I've always thought about getting into that industry.
At least you can do some thorough product testing for the products you sell.
It's a great and massive online market you have for these items.

Couple It, Keeta and Sinsational like this.

There is another auction site and it is an Australian one called quicksales as i sell some items on this auction site when it was called Oztion. The fees on there is quite cheap and it is free to join up
