Default New Website Competition Launch & Facebook

Hi Guys

I am about to launch a brand new website selling an exciting range of Usborne children's books.

To celebrate our launch we are going to run a competition on the website where entrants are required to visit our Facebook page. The competition will be run for one month.

My question is do we open the competition up to all likers of our page or do we limit it to those who have liked us during the competition period?

Comments from those who have done similar things would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi,
Having read your post I am going to hang off just encase you only do new 'likes'....

Not really...I think you should reward your loyal customers who are there because they support you and not just because they might win something (Unless you already have some sort of loyalty scheme).

I think you should open it up to all who have previously liked your site, otherwise your existing customer base is disadvantaged and not able to be rewarded for already being supportive of your business. You will already gain exposure and potentially new customers through asking them to like before they are eligible. Don't forget you wouldn't be where you are without your existing likes!

It sounds like you are putting the cart before the horse.

Facebook pages can support your website. Your thread indicates you are trying to make it the driver of your site.

WRONG!!!!

Your objective is to maximise the numbers of entrants in your competiton.

Why can't they do this on your website?
Why make them go to someone else's page to enter your competition (Facebook)?
Why do you want to promote someone else's page (Facebook)?

Most Facebook pages are a total, complete and utter waste of time because most businesses don't know how to use them to promote their websites properly.

Can I suggest:
DO NOT MAKE LIKING YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE A CONDITION OF ENTRY.
DO NOT MAKE LIKING YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE A CONDITION OF ENTRY.
DO NOT MAKE LIKING YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE A CONDITION OF ENTRY.

Do I need to repeat myself?

Can I also suggest you take advice on marketing via the Internet?

Regs,
JohnW

I don't quite agree with that- if she can gain contact details such as an email address as well as a FB like, she then has 2 channels with which she can connect with potential customers- she can only connect through email if they enter through the website, which more often then not goes straight to spam.

Just my thoughts...
