Just a thought. | Yeah I'd be thinking that too, but that's a little ambitious isn't it. If it's $1 on Jan 1st and $365 December 30th isn't that an extraordinary price increase - 3650% (my maths could be wrong).
Playing around with pricing makes sense but why charge so high for some random dates. Seems silly to me. Unless of course people are willing to pay the higher amounts.

The reasoning behind the pricing structure is simply that day 1 we would have gained as bigger as a community that we had managed to gain before launch and therefore day 1 was $1. As the year goes on and the momentum builds we will be pushing out daily giveaways to more and more people via e-mail, via Facebook and via Twitter. It did no seem sense to me that we would charge business owners the same, when, further down the scale we would be promoting giveaways to a wider audience of people. So far it is working well. We are only, just under, 3 weeks old and momentum is growing nicely.
I take your point though. I am also interested in the B2B side of things, as per your previous comment. This is something that I am currently looking into.

As I say, if people are happy to pay the hundreds of dollars, great, but I'd be thinking that those companies willing to pay $20 may not be willing to pay $300.
To be honest I'm very interested in your business. I have a similar-ish business idea. Similar in some ways, quite different in others, and I think one of the questions I have is how much are businesses willing to pay to advertise / feature themselves for a day. It seems as if there are plenty of companies willing to pay $100+. Actually you have several clients paying $300+ by the look of it. Good for you! I actually find that quite surprising, I didn't think that companies would so readily hand over their hard earned.
I might have to give some serious thought in getting a business plan and website together for my idea.

LOL@ not uncommon quote.
I completely appreciate what you are saying. I believe in my platform, naturally, and, business owners have received up to 130+ likes on their Facebook page in one 24 hour period, as well as engagement on Facebook and, as a previous poster mentioned 3x sales in one day - which is fantastic. I am working really hard with business owners in order to bring support, advice and ideas to ensure that their giveaway day social media campaign goes as well as possible.
Nevertheless, you are right, on the whole I think that there is a price point that people will be willing to pay. However, the only way that this price point can possibly alter is if the numbers significantly grow. For example, people may be prepared to pay $366 for a giveaway day if they know that there is an audience of 10,000 people, for example. This is a lot more targeted, for online business owners, than advertising in a local newspaper for example, it's also a lot cheaper.
So, the task remains for me and my team to take this to the next level. I can breath a sigh of relief though, we are 3 weeks old and the foundation that we are building seems to be a positive one.
Now, back to your business idea.. I am intrigued!

Very positive indeed. Inspirational even. Quote:

So am I!
I've had an idea which has morphed several times and I'm not actually sure where it's at at the moment. I need to sit down and ask my brain what's going on, which I've been putting off as I've been thinking that there are too many websites in the daily deal fields and that mine would be facing too many challenges despite whatever hook I have. However your hook seems to have had yielded great results pretty much instantly.
I think in some ways the easy option would be to launch yet another daily deals site but then you have to worry about sourcing suppliers and striking up deals, and that sounds a little too complicated for me given my other responsibilities and lack of experience in the field. So I'm thinking of something altogether far simpler and would basically be selling advertising much the same as you, but I wouldn't have the giveaway hook, I'd have another hook, if only I can remember it.

Interesting!
Personally I would not bother with another daily deals site. The only copy cat daily deals sites that will be successful are those that are within a specific niche. For example, I love what is being done with this site: http://www.dealsforpets.com.au who have a Big Aussie Giveaway day coming up and obviously there is the business related BizzBuzz.
In order for a daily deals site to be really successful there has to be significant marketing revenue and great relationships with business owners to get the 'deals' in place - good old catch 22.
Nevertheless, I think there are some great 'potential niches'. One niche I have always thought about for Australia is the tourism market - there are heaps of touristy type things and if you could develop a relationship with hotel owners, accommodation owners and have a flyer in each room then it is a great start. Just a thought.

I'm just looking for a hobby type of business just out of interest really, so it needs to be simple and not time consuming.
Actually I'm tempted to mention that I wouldn't mind hearing from some web developers that have dealt within this market space.

I ran 2 Big Aussie Giveaway days earlier this month and got ~40 social likes and a handful of mailing list subscribers. Total cost $100.
I also ran another one yesterday and got 3 new likes and 3 email subscribers. Total cost $50.
So I guess you could say it cost me over $3 per like overall. Of all of these interactions, 2 were from males. Being a mens clothing store, results were quite unsuccessful compared to expectations. Turns out virtually all BAG members are female, which is something that was not made explicit at any point during the purchasing process.
I'm interested to see if any FS members had any major success using Big Aussie Giveaway? I would imagine a female focused business could do very well. But I wonder, do BAG members really engage with businesses or are they simply in it to win a prize? Some likers unliked as soon as the winners were announced, so there is some hint there!

I too am interested to learn of others experiences.
I have run the same number of days as t-shirt fan coincidentally, all over this month. Total number of new likes at my facebook page, as a result of these = 4. (Made two of the days really easy to pick the winner of the prize!) Each of these new fans are female.
As I am offering a service, rather than a product, I knew numbers would be lower than BAG success stories promote - but, I feel that those few likes are persons with a legitimate interest in my service, with a real use for them so would be 'quality likes' I suppose you could say.
I have given away the first stage of a trademark registration process on my days, so, will be interesting to see if this turns into them paying for the next stages of the process. If all 3 winners choose to engage services then I would call it a massive success, even if I only got 4 new fans... In fact, if only 1 does it will be a (profitable) success. Time will tell....
