Default Sporadic Blogging

Hi All,

I am in the final stages of launching my new website and it has a blog slash latest news feature on it.

I have noticed that blogging has become all the rage and that "everyone" has one on their website now.

But what I have noticed is that people don't seem to keep up with their blogging e.g. the last post is 6 months ago.

So I am wondering what impression this leaves in everyone's mind when they visit a blog that has not been updated in a very long time (that is in the virtual world)?? Does it leave you with the impression that they have started but not finished something? Or do you think gee, they must be really busy?

Will be great to hear what everyone thinks about this

Hi Samantha

When I see a blog that hasn't had any entries for a while, I mostly think that they are really busy and what seemed like a good idea initially, has had to be put on the back burner.

On the flip side, when I see a blog that is current and used really well, I LOVE IT! I love that they have taken the time to fill me in on their latest news and given me an opportunity to connect with them further.

In short, I love a well used blog!

for me the former always comes to mind first. when starting a blog, don't set yourself insanely high goals. just posting two to three times a week will be fine.

Strip the published date code out if you can, as this keeps the content evergreen.

However this is no substitute for regular, valuable content. People appreciate it, and Google loves it.

Yep, I did this a while back and it certainly makes a difference. I also spent some time over the break having a tidy up and getting rid of any posts that were now irrelevant (for instance, Facebook landing pages etc. that don't work any more since they changed a while back).

Couple It and clintmaher like this.

as mentioned here, remove the date the article is published.

that will pretty much solve that.

also avoid date related postings. its a little hard if you want to post news, but easier if its for your own content.

When I visit a blog that hasn't had any new blog posts for a while, I think they are really busy in other things.

I also do have some personal blogs and some of them are not updated regularly since I'm busy on my work. But if I do have time, I make it appoint to provide an interesting blog post to encourage them to visit again my blog.

Thanks all for the tips.

I just don't want it to appear that I have half started something. I am hoping to have a whole range of blog posts that are not time specific by the end of February so that I can just whip them out if I am too busy.

I will look into the date thing. I just don't want to give them impression that I was jumping on the bandwagon and then couldn't be a@$ed.
