Please forgive me for not knowing or understanding; but when I followed that link all it did was list all the pages of my sites.
Nothing to do with what I would consider to be links?
What am I doing wrong, Tristan?
Thanks for your patience.
Rgds,
Ric

Click the button marked "inlinks", then you can use the filter to remove all the links from within your own site by selecting "Except from this domain"

Thank you, Tristan.
That makes better sense.

Boys! Boys! Boys!

I've read (with a little amusement) all your posts on this topic. And I have noticed that all this 'techno talk' has been contributed only by male members of this forum.

Hhhhmmmm.... is there a clue there?

Regardless... I've read it all and I've learned something!

Thank you - all of you - most informative!

Cheers,

B.B.

Interesting thread topic.

From what i can understand of this topic is that Warren believes that Alexa rankings indicate the business operation and effectiveness status?

Having spent a very long time performing Business Competitive Intelligence for clients i have found that Alexa is useless for any valid measures of business performance because the information gathered is highly subject to manipulation as already mentioned by forum users here.

Page rank is a better measure because it is harder to manipulate, but i will put out that last year i designed a website for a company and got a page rank of 3 within a month of being live. This didnt mean the company was any better than a company that has a page rank of 2. I did a better job of designing the website than the competitor did.

In most cases i would have to say that the main purpose of having a business website is to get found by prospective customers. This means the organic search ranking is more important than page rank and Alexa for example because neither of these have any appreciable effect on your organic ranking.

Warren i propose that most small business owners are not website specialists and have few resources to manage website promotion as a seperate activity because they are often solo (hence this forum). The fact that their website has no ranking is a reflection of this fact an dnot the quality of their specific business service.

Paul

You know.... I've never really thought of myself as being physic but looking back at how I started this thread I wrote...

Is Alexa definitive... no. Is it a great guideline... yes.

....and then I followed with ....OK, I know I am going to regret this tomorrow.... phwooo haaaa, physic or what?

Judging by the number of viewers it looks like being controversial might be the way to go.

Is there a lesson here for all of us, dear soloists?

I love (LOVE) this quote. After deciding I'd completely redesign my own website using Joomla, I went down a level in pagerank and who knows how many millions in Alexa. After tantrums and fretting, I realised my word-of-mouth and referral networks are BY FAR my largest source of work so I decided to stop obsessing about it. I will definitely work on it over time, but I'm learning to put my energy into the bits of my business that make me money (apart from posting in this forum; I must explore that 'strategy' sometime soon, grin).

I also like (which I knew) the point about Alexa only collecting data from people who have the toolbar installed. A lot of small (micro actually) businesses don't and they're my main target market.

Oh boy, is it just me or has alexa removed the "Australia" ranking from it's information?

Many of the Australian Top Blog lists are calculated using AU Alexa Rank, Technorati and other things, but I just went to Alexa only to find they no longer appear to list an AU Alexa rank..... hmmmmm
