Hi Mitch,

I think your work is fantastic!

As someone who browses portfolios quite a bit my decision is based on the quality and application of the work as opposed to the web site (if in your case you are a print designer).

A web designer could never afford to do this unless the blog was styled and created by themselves.

A nice URL would definitely help!

Definately get your own domain name and a more 'personalised' email address.

I'd also agree with using something like Wordpress. It's possible to get some very cheap hosting that you can setup a Wordpress blog on. With that said, there's no reason why you're blog can't be your website as well. Wordpress has matured a great deal over the last year or two and there's lots of useful plugins available. You can even specify within Wordpress now, whether you want a "static" first page to your site, so as to make it look more like a "standard" website, as opposed to just a blog. (In the past, you needed to use an additional plugin to get a static first page). You can also create "pages" as opposed to "posts", for pages that don't require constant changes. You'll find a lot of websites out there now that actually run on Wordpress.
