Hey Bruce -

From experience? What happens when you drop your Yellow Pages listing?

Absolutely nothing!

But then again - nothing happened anyway when I did pay for a listing with them.
Actually, nothing happened either when I paid for a hard copy listing.

I still have my 'free' online listing with them - the only calls I get are from people who'd like to sell me something.

Actually, as I write this - I have a telemarketer on speaker phone giving me a spiel about his advertising deal in a local gymnasium. He comes from Qld. He's never seen the gym he's talking about. He said he got my number from the Yellow Pages.

Yellow Pages mucked up my listing - this guy thinks I'm a 'dog handler' ... *sigh* oh well, I'd better go tell him...

cheers,

B.B.

Ahahahaha so true! I get angry at telemarketers from the YP because they call my 1300 number and I get charged to listen to them ramble!

Hello Bruce,
Just something to add to the other good comments above; the only reason I'd see any value in a YP Online / True Local listing would be for the citation ref you'd get towards your Google Local Business Centre entry. (You might find this page handy for a reference.)

I have a (free) listing in True Local, but I can tell you that my LBC entry has been my biggest drawcard yet. Whether you have an existing website or not, it's free to set up, and done right, puts you in the box seat for localised searches.

Hope that helps!

More info please. Where does one go to set this up?

Four years ago I had two listings under bookkeeping and secretarial support and from memory it cost about $750. I received one phone call and zero clicks. I've never paid for YP since then.

As with any marketing activity if there is no return on your investment then you need to stop wasting your money.

Hi Bruce

As someone that had used YP some 10 yes ago I would say do not waste your money invest in ur website and possibly google adv.

Like Janna we were approached by YP online mid last year as we had success with adv on YP in the past agreed to take up 6mth ad, in effect no real Leads came from it, infact I had more traffic from Twitter to our website then yellow pages on the 6 months.

We I speak to clients who find us online they've google search.
Just make sure you are on first two pages

Contribute articles etc that will add more crediablity Then YP

UP are also I pain to cancel an online add I hv been going back and forth for 3 months

I would definitely agree here but I think the time might have come for the average business's Yellow Pages spend to be minimised. I still do use Yellow Pages Online (though I can't remember the last time I used the print version for anything other than a paper weight to flatten curled paper or as a footrest). Yellow Pages still has its validity and its place but I do feel that a business without an online presence 'doesn't exist'. Elitist it may seem, but I frequently check a company's website before doing business with them.

Hi all

I have just cancelled my listing with the yellow pages.

They were very pushy when I cancelled and kept emphasising how many clicks had been made on my ad in the past year, and how all these were all people ready and looking for my services.

Then I thought to myself, wait a sec. The first place people go to make targeted spam mailing lists is the yellow pages.

Looking back, I think the number of clicks on my website more closely resembled the number of targeted spam emails I received during this period, rather than the number of new people looking for my services.

Spot on Shane - YP is the resource of telemarketers.

I say, congratulations on cancelling your ad!
