Thanks for the feedback.
Its good to hear business owners don't perceive it as the be all and end all because I get the feeling the world has moved to quickly for the yellow pages online business model. They don't seem customer focused. it took them well over a month to get my add online - whereas someone like true local will have it done in a week or less. I think there are better options.

Hang on a minute Bruce -

I don't like Yellow Pages, but that doesn't mean 'True Local' is any better!

They completely missed us out in their first edition here, so I contacted them to make sure I was included in the next edition.

I found their rates to be only marginally less expensive than Yellow Pages, and when I told the rep that it was too expensive - they got 'shirty'.

To test the waters, I asked for their advertised 'free listing'.
I got it - totally ballsed up, in the wrong section and with the wrong information in it. Suffice to say - I've never had a call from anybody as a result of seeing the listing in True Local.

I'm still waiting for a call about this years' edition. Somehow I feel I'll still be waiting at the end of the year.

You've heard that saying - "don't knock the competition till you've tried it" - Well I've tried it and my thoughts are that they're both as bad as each other!

Happy days!

B.B.

I grant you I'm in the US, so my experience could be vastly different. I do work for an attorney and we spend a small fortune on Yellow Book and Yellow Pages. I was just checking my report for our listings (online) on one of them. I think it was ONE CALL for the past month. Now we get a fair amount of business from the listings, but we're starting to ratchet back. We've put more money into the Internet (new web page, inbound linking, etc.) and are pulling out of books that aren't producing. They're just so expensive. And I really question the value of the online listing.

That's just my experience. I would personally never think to start my search for something on the online yellow book/yellow pages. I'd start at google before then.
