Thankyou very much for the generous support! I'll be in touch soon with a short paragraph for you.

Thanks faruk, i've added our site to your directory. How long has your site been running for? How did you market your site?

I would also suggest checking out this great article for more ideas for your website too. 22 Tips to Quickly Improve your Online Marketing Results.

All of this online stuff, especially marketing, can be very daunting when you are first starting. When I first started it was like a whole new language - luckily I married an online marketer and so I hear about this area alot....and some of it seeps in!!!

Hope that article helps - my husband wrote it!!!

Cheers

Great article, I find that a lot of online articles don't really have alot of useful/real content. This one had some great simple tips though.

I noticed you mentioned you tried some search engine optimisation. Which key words were you trying to optimise for?

When marketing online be it SEO or Adwords you can use a free tool to find what I call your money key words. These are the high traffic keywords that consumers are typing into Google and other search engines. The tool is free by Google. You can find it at this link >> https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

1. What you would do is set your country first. Let's say to Australia.
2. Then type in your key word where it says >> Enter one keyword or phrase per line: For this example I will use "buy digital camera".
3. Tick the box that says: Use synonyms.
4. Enter the spam protection letters and click go.

Google will now do a search and let you know how many searches were done last month for the key words you entered as well as giving you a number of suggested and related key words.

When the results are in you would click on the heading that says "Approx Search Volume" it will be marked with what ever the last month was. This will bring the most searched keywords to the top of the list.

I can see that the key words >> buy digital camera had around 40,000 searched last month. I would say this is a good key word to set up an adwords campaign for if you are selling this product and can monetise Google adwords.

If you don't know how to monetise Google adwords Michael Glanfield sells a really cool adwords training video tutorial course I purchased some time back. Very easy to understand. I can't remember the link but I'm sure if you Google him you will find him and his course very easily.

As for the search engine optimisation... it will take some time (3 to 6 months on average) if you hire someone really good to get you a front page listing.

If you want someone for your SEO I can highly recommend a young lady I use in India. She is not the cheapest but out of the 21 SEO people I've hired over the past two years she is on the ball and very good. Just flick me an email at mark@internetmarketinginstitute.com.au with the subject line (SEO India) and I'll reply with her details. Alternatively drop me a line on skype. My details are on this forum.

Also I use the content network of Google adwords... very cheap and productive... many, many hits to a new website the first day from this alone. Always be sure you separate your content network with your search network when using Google adwords.

I hope I was not too confusing, rather more of a help.

1 word - SEO

everything comes down to search engine optimisation.

Google is the search engine to target here. I would suggest doing some research into this and different SEO techniques, but here are a few pointers to get you started:
- get a blog up and running
- its never enough content! add more articles and pages to your site - Google loves this
- participate in forums/discussion boards online
- link with other sites and internally
- advertising on other sites - adwords, banners, google analytics for tracking etc..

cheers,

Great idea! There's a rule of thumb for creating communities around a forum such as this, but basically you have to assume that only 1-2% of people will actually post to it. The irony being that if few people post, there's little content and little push for future users to post as well. It starts to look like a an inactive forum and people just take what they like or is relevant and leave.

Offering incentives is a good idea, but with your kind of site the aim should be to drive as much traffic as possible. This benefits your affiliate network and advertisers, but mainly it means that you have a bigger actual number of people in the 1-2% that are going to post actively.

There's a few opportunities around that you could leverage at the moment. Drop me a line morgwn@digitalartscience.com.au and we can work on some campaigns or traffic driving exercises.

Thats one area I never really got into, optimising forums and seeding a brand new forum.

I am guessing like anything its going to be a good deal of hard work.

I like the way Flying Solo did theirs, they had an active readership that was instantly converted to an online forum taking a percentage of the hard work away.

The biggest incentive of all to attract people is good information.

I would possibly try:

http://affiliate-marketing-forums.5s...eprograms.com/

which is a fantastic forum for affiliate marketing, which involves you paying people to attract visitors / conversions

For organic search results, you will not go past this forum for really good information:

http://www.highrankings.com/forum/

And I have an internet marketing video which skirts round the edges of some stuff that may help
