Default IT Business needs more customers

As the title suggests. I run a small Sydney, local inner city IT Business and was looking for ideas on what actually works with advertising. My target market at this stage is small offices with staff or say 5-10 ppl.

What should I do. Im happy to try any proven advertising method. I just don't want to throw any money away.

Thanks.

The first thing I'd do is lose the idea of advertising - it tends to be a waste of time and money.

The second thing you need to do is to get clear on your outcome ... what, exactly, do you want? This should include a number and a date ... for example ... I want to gross another $100k in my business in the next 8 weeks. Or, I want 30 new customers to come into my business in the next 4 weeks.

Step 3 ... well, that's hard to say until you've completed step 2, really ...

Thanks LeelaCosgrove. Interesting what you have written to me because I have never thought of it like that. I would love 10 new local area buisness clients in the next month. Hows that for a goal. Now what. Forget about a financial goal as they dont motivate me some how

May I suggest Google? There's lots of interesting information out there to help entrepreneurs - from guerrilla marketing tactics to referral generation.

Also try the likes of www.inc.com and www.entrepreneur.com - both helpful resources and a wealth of information. The flying solo site also has some great articles to help you with marketing etc.

My other comment would be - talk to your existing customers - see if they can refer your contact details on to others.

Geoffrey.

Hi, Look there are lots of proven ways to market your business. If its any kind of consulting you need to build trust.

The thing that works for my business is looking for the types of businesses (online) that could do with my services (they have a website but its not great) - I know I can add value by fixing their copy and SEO - then I phone them to get the name of the manager and offer a few key points by email as well. Then we make a time to meet up and I offer some helpful information with my quote. Sometimes educating your clients is necessary, sometimes its not.
