Default Yellow Pages

Has anyone experienced any nightmares with yellowpages??

They keep getting my ads wrong, website not linking after numerous conversations with them, changes not made even 2 months after I have returned proofs to them etc etc, showing I specialise in Probate law when I actually specialise in Property/Business Law.

It seems to be never ending, they are driving me insane and keep billing me!!

This morning I sent an email to the person apparently looking after me (as no response by phone) and asked them to stop the whole thing and requested a refund. Have'nt got a response as yet!

Regards,

Hey Vanessa,

I made a simple enquiry with Yellow Pages 2yrs ago, just wanted to get an idea on rates and options for the new business.

No matter how many times I tell them I'm not interested, "don't call me, I'll call you" they regularly phone to try and talk me into advertising.

So if thats the trouble I've had after making an enquiry I can imagine what it would be like to deal with them as a paying customer. Infuriating at best I'm guessing.

I would suggest, if you haven't already done so, to put your grievances and request in writing to them.

Stay firm and get what you paid for and if not get your money back.

Cheers

Hi Vanessa,

Simple answer would be to cancel your advertising with them and spend the money on optimising your website and undertaking SEO for searches on "Property Law" and "Business Law" keywords.

Does the listing actually provide any measurable return for you? If it does then I would be surprised. I do think your advertising dollar could be better spent elsewhere. I use my very thin Yellow Pages mostly as a door stop and I never use it to search on-line.

Happy to stand corrected though.

I agree with Chris on this, especially for your line of work.
I've heard many stories like yours and worse, I won't go into detail here but any business that charges premium rates should offer premium service as far as I'm concerned. If they aren't then move on.

Oh Vanessa - I know how you feel.

I don't give yellow pages any business due to many of my clients having such a bad time and also getting no results.

Yes it does work for some people although with so many other affordable options out there now you should really consider its value.

All the best!
Amanda

MarketingHQ is 100% right.

I wrote an article about this recently:

http://thinksync.com.au/blog/online-...r-for-business

Wherein I pull out some data that indicates that not only are the print versions losing ground, but business directories of all kinds, including the Yellow Pages online are going backwards.

Google is also reducing the importance of Business Directories in their PageRank algorithms, which is appropriate - Google's trend is for producing more relevant search results and directories are really no longer relevant.

Vanessa, after experiencing many mistakes also about 4 years ago and getting nowhere with the account execs, I ended up researching and finding out the head guy's name (he was in Melbourne) and sent a polite letter explaining the difficulties. I received an apology and credit for some of my account. But now I am having difficulties in communication again, so may not continue at all.

Hi Vanessa,

I know what you are going through.

We are in the middle of trying to cancel our online ads due to only getting one sales through yellow pages over an 18 months period! Considering the amount of money we spent with them it is just not worth our while so we cancelled it in writing over a month ago. However, last week we got another monthly bill, we rang them up with no luck. We then sent an email with a copy of the fax asking them to finally cancel our ad but the only answer we got was an email saying our request was forwarded to the cancellation department. Thank god we cancelled the direct debit!

We are now looking to invest the money we are saving into other forms of advertising/marketing and we are sure that will work.

Fingers crossed you will get a response soon and can invest your time & energy for something where your business is actually benefiting from.

Regards
Birgit
