Posting articles - increase google ranking

While article writing is great, social bookmarking those articles is also a great way to get more backlinks. I use one called www.onlywire.com. It submits to about 30 social bookmarking sites automatically once you have set up your profiles with each of them.

But the backlinks are going to the article aggregator, not to your site. So there's no benefit in the backlinks.

Hi Vanessa,

I'm not arguing that external links are unimportant. I'm suggesting that thought is needed as to the best way to use content and each website will have its unique situation and different answers to the question.

When I look at your site, I don't see a lot of content - a Home page and 3 short pages about different services you offer. I expect you would get more, relevant SE referrals by initially spending your time on writing more information about your services and publishing that on your own site, rather than creating PR release content to be published elsewhere.

I'd pick one specific area of your services. Eg. Purchase and Sales of Businesses. You have a bullet list on that service page that could be linked to more informative pages on each topic. Google is looking for topic specific content and as you build up more pages about the various aspects of sale of a business, your ranking and SE referrals will increase dramatically.

Once you have built up some serious volume of topic specific content start searching for businesses, organisations and sites that would find it useful for reference purposes. Google will tell you what are valuable sites.

Try a search phrase like this on Google Aust pages: legal advice selling a business

Do you see any general PR release sites near the top of the search results list? No. Who you will find at # 22 is Flying Solo.

I'd take this as a signal from Google that a link from a large Australian website focused on business issues (i.e. FS) is worth more to you than a link from an article on a general PR site.

The next time someone asks for advise about selling a business in Australia you have a legitimate reason to post a link to your valuable content here.

Once your content is published on your own site, I'd turn to developing content for other sites only now, you can say in your external article, "more detailed help on selling a business is available here." Make sure your link text is "help on selling a business" and make sure your link is a "follow" link.
