Domains contra SEO campaign true of false

Hi Everyone, i would like to start thread for more experiences people, but please you can writte all reasonable opinions.

i got domain .ws for my website which has page rank 3, and having about 1000 visitors per week ( i know is not much but just starting) and

i decided with my friend to change domain for .com because our target is people from around the world from australia but from asia and europe as well

i am planing to pay for company to do SEO for me and i was talking with few of them and i was astonish because some of top companies in australia dont know about that what was my problem which is:

Should i stay with .ws ( because works globally as well) or go for .com because is famous and everyone know .com

Problem is ws got already 3 page rank and com has 0 so what would be better .com has powerfull word ''australia'' in url which can help is SEO

WS i am sure you havent heard so i wil lexplain www.ws.ws company from USA selling as alternative for com because ws works globaly but orginally is came from Western Samoa
In my ming why i choosen istudent.ws because in my marketing i wanted to put on posters and on another websites ads as Istudent.ws which could be explanation InternationalStudent.WebSite or
InternationalStudent.WorldStudent

the websites i was talking about are www.istudent.ws and www.istudent-australia.com

and as well i got quandry about should i keep both of them working or should i use strategy as example make ws as a blog and link to the another adress ??

You can redirect the domain to the new .com domain. The visitors who visited the .ws website are likly to forget the exact domain and visit the .com anyway.

I know i'm recieving visitors from competitors from similar domains (.net) because they are coming to me for refunds.

Hi George,
if you have separate hosting for both the .com and the .ws, you can create a script that basically tells users and search engines that www.xyz.ws/abc has moved to www.xyz.com/abc and this will pass on all of your search engine pageranking. Its called a '301 Redirect'.

any way please if comeone have any idea how can i deevelop site www.istudent-australia.com i did SEO already and i am waiting for results i was thinking to send emails to all my friends and ask them to do the same to ther friends but i am thinking if one hit on my website will change anything in google

i would like to talk wth someone who know about taht

Hi George,

great website. Lots of informations and features on there, plus a great idea. Well done.

I think you will do much better with a .com site and if most of your traffic is from Australia, a .com.au would also do well.

I changed a website name a year or so ago from a .net.nz to a .co.nz and found this made a huge difference. It didn't take long for the search engines to pickup the new domain, and within a few weeks this ranked higher the previous one. It is now ranked 1st on the first page of google. I then just added a 301 redirect from the older one.

Here are a couple of good SEO resources I have come across. Bit of reading, but worthwhile if you have the time.

My advice would be not to keep both. You will most likely end up with a duplicate content ban from Google.

What you should do is the 301 redirect. This actually tells Google and any other place that the website no longer exists at the old domain and to go to the new domain. This solves any duplicate problems and the PR should transfer over too.

Looking at you website, I see you have htaccess urls (very good) and if you don't have an XML sitemap and Google webmaster account I would get one as your next step

hi for everyone i am so glad for your help and nice words, just i would like to ask few more things i called to melbourneit i think you know them guys and read on usa websites about WS idea and they said that ws working same as com and is just marketing thing andis up to me, if i got good SEO campaign i can be on 1 page of google as well i dont need com. hmm just com looks better

i am asking once more because i realized few weeks ago that now i got page ranking 4/10 at google on my www.istudent.ws domain but my another domain with com got 0 :-(

so i am thinking that would be so divvicult to reach 4 for my com domain and by the time i will have 4 on my com domain i will get 5 on my ws domain

so question is maybe keep ws ?? ohhh i realy dont know is so difficult different opinions from different people but i have no idea who is right :-(

by the way ws as everyone know is trom western samoa but people can think is WebSite as you know TV is from tuvulu something like that but people using and i got examples of succesfull websites as jams.tv or james.tv etc

just i am thinking maybe keep my ws and make marketing as istudent.ws

one thing is i hate sometimes com because many com are link building farms and have no benefit for humanity for all people just stupid thing ehhh

If you wanted the .com only, then doing a 301 redirect is telling Google (and anyone else) that you have permanently shifted domain.

The PR should move with it as well, as the content has not changed.

hi thank you guys for advices i did as you were talking i did redirection and now going all from com domain to www.istudent.ws
but ws i think does not have meaning taht can not be good in SEO
i would like to talk with someone about that did anyone got experience with ws or not at all
