I've held back because of trust. I can't see a logical reason to give a stranger password access to the guts of my site. I have wondered if it is standard practice for a SEO provider to have this open access and would love feedback on this. |
Its not that uncommon unfortunately, if the companies
SEO strategy includes on page optimisation (and it should) then then they may need access to your code - however they don't necessarily need direct access to your website, you could easily enough send them the files and they can make the changes for you.
The way I help my clients with
SEO is to advise them what changes they should make, tell them what sort of impact they expect the changes to make so they can test and see how effective it is. That way we can measure it and actually see if there is any ROI for that particular strategy.
A lot of companies want to hold their
SEO secrets close to their chest.. the truth is, there are no secrets and if you can work with a client, keep them in the loop, let them know what you are doing, its a win / win situation.
