Default Putting the idea out there - is it unsafe?

Hi everyone,

I know I have sort of asked this before. I was directed to the 30 day challenge which I have just started and am definitely interested in continuing (thanks Bradzo!). But what I am itching to do at the same time, is just put my idea out there and find out if people would pay...

I am targeting people who are studying from home. I have email access to a group of students who are currently doing the same course as I am from home. How safe/unsafe is it to just randomly throw out a question, "Would you pay for ____?" Do I just hope that, as I have seen mentioned on here a few times, no one will take the initiative to copy the idea. In a public email group obviously confidentiality is impossible.

Also, the organisation we are all taking the course from has access to the group and reads all emails. They may be the ones most likely to jump at it if there is a decent response.

Any advice?

TIA!

-ASAP

Chances are that if it's a good idea, other people have also had it. Having said that, if you're that worried about the "the man" reading your emails then maybe you could try something like this:

Send an email to the group saying you have an idea and would appreciate it if anybody interested in providing feedback could contact you directly. That way you don't need to provide specifics.

Ideas are a dime a dozen.
It's the implementation of the idea that determines your chance of success (obviously your idea has to have some merit!).

I'd stick with the 30DC - it will lead you through doing market research which is what you are after.

Most ideas that turn out to great are thought of as long shots when people start them - if everyone you ask thinks it's a great idea my bet is it won't work!

Also, businesses often start with one idea and end up producing something totally different - let customers direct where you go.

If you are new to all of this I'd stick with the 30DC and also ask friends and family.

Good luck.

are the people you would ask doing the same business idea development exercise? If they are then I would not ask them!

I was just scrolling down to write this exact thing!

Billions upon billions of ideas travel through peoples minds on a daily basis, some are unique the majority aren't.

As Ray said, what differentiates you is your ability to put in the 98% more required to get this idea off the ground!

Thanks for the replies people. I am thinking about just throwing the question out there but will speak to friends and family first. Have only spoken to a very select few so far so I have to contact more people...

Meanwhile, this 30DC is keeping me busy!!! I really think this will take me longer than 30 days because I won't have time to watch all the videos and do all the tasks each day with all my other commitments. It does give me some amazing information though and I am learning alot!!

Thank you again for introducing it to me.
