Default Importing SD Memory Cards From China

Hi there,

I'm looking to import SDHC cards from China, branded either Kingston or Sandisk. I'm not averse to a generic either if I can't get K or S branded cards.

Does anyone here do this on a regular basic (or have ever done it full stop)?

Also, if anyone has experience in wholesale import of small electrical goods from China, or consumer electronics, let me know, I'd love to hear your stories/advice, etc.

First time on the forum so... hi!

in a word...DON"T

At my old job (photographic supplies)nwe imported camera cards and usually
found that by the time we got them in they were out of date and too expensive.

Unless you can afford to buy a full container the price just will not be competitive aginst the likes of Harvey Norman or JB HiFi. These big guys often get camera cards free when they purchase the other products (ie I know for a fact that Samsung will supply cards with a camera shipment)

My 2c

Don't know about SD cards as such but we have helped clients import a wide range of goods from China, it is not as scary as many people think.

You do need to fully cost your import (inc shipping, duties etc) and check it is viable and worthwhile (as mentined above)

Two of our Accounants are chinese born Australians & we know heaps of customs / shipping agents to get in contact if we can help at all.

A guy who works with me did this recently.
He simply went to alibaba.com and contacted many suppliers.
Ordered a small batch and sold them on eBay.
He didn't make much money, but profit is profit and he earned much needed experience, haver never done anything like this before.
If he did it on a larger scale, he would have made more money.
It's only a small item though, and needs to be supplimented with other items to make it worthwhile.

You certainly don't need to order a container load of such items to get good pricing.

SD Cards is an extremely low margin business and somewhat competitive. The competitors stock cards usually in the hope of upselling or bundling with higher margin goods. If you are intent on it,you need to go big from the start to get good prices and lower your risk of pricing fluctuations. I wouldn't have my business rely solely on SD memory cards.
