Default claiming travel for a job

hi all, hope someone can help me with this question. I am interested in a job in Melbourne, I am in Perth. It will require me to go to Melbourne and back home, once a month. This will be costly by any means, especially by air. Does anybody know what can be claimed in regards to this. Thankyou.

IMO, if the fare is relevant to the work, it will be tax deductible, otherwise, not.

In your case, you will work in Mel, and fly back home (WA) every month. It is very hard to say your fly back home because of your work requirement.

Hello, this may fall under work related travel expenses, depending whether you are a contractor and the Melbourne job is a client job. If you are commuting from home to Melbourne as a PAYG employee you are probably not entitled to a tax allowance.

If you are 'commuting' to your place of work from Perth to Melbourne its unlikely you will be able to claim this back, however if it is your 'client' in Melbourne and you are visiting them to discuss work then you would be able to claim reasonable travel, accommodation and other related expenses.

Could you give a bit more information about the 'job' and the working arrangements and I might be able to be a bit more specific

Cheers

Mark
