Sorry to hear you have to sell your business.
I recently sold my cafe, I went through a broker but did investigate some other ways to sell during the process - here are some suggestions.....
There are a couple of low (or no) cost websites around - including
http://www.businessforsale.com.au, trading post and
http://www.bxbox.com.au. If you Google "Business for sale" it brings up quite a few different ones.
You could also spread the word through your networks - for example, would any of your staff / customers / friends be interested? I know some people don't like to let staff / customers know they are selling, but I ended up telling my staff and got a lead through that. It might also be worthwhile to contact some local accountants / lawyers as they may know of someone who is looking to buy a business.
Another possibility would be to call some franchisors in your industry - depending whether they already have an outlet in your area they may be interested in yours (particularly if you have a good location, customers etc).
Just as an aside, it can take a while to go through the process of selling (it was 5 months before I had even one offer on my cafe), so I'd suggest you have all your financials etc. in order and make it as easy as possible for someone looking at the business to make a quick decision.
Anyway, there are just a couple of my thoughts.
Good luck, hope it all goes well.
Cheers,
Melissa
