Appear on pg 1 Yahoo & Bing but not Google

Hi

This is a question for the SEO specialists on the site:

Could anyone explain in simple terms the main reasons why a website appears on page 1 searches in Yahoo , Bing and Web Wombat etc but on page 3, 4 or 5 in Google.

What are the main differerences between the way these search engines work and how they rank websites.

I have 2 websites one is always on page one for all search engines but the newer one isn't getting there with Google but is doing great with the others (its 4months old)

I understand this is a very complex area and any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for that info it was very helpful...great article.

I can now see why my website does well with BING, I spent a lot of time on the metatags and page titles getting them right. I have outgoing links to very relevant sites as well. I have keyword rich domain name. I thought these would have been more important to GOOGLE.

I'm adding more content on to the site soon and some articles so maybe that will help with GOOGLE positions.

I have found that google is more difficult to rank well for than bing/yahoo. I also have 2 sites and 1 ranks better than the other in google.

From my research, google requires a more broad approach than the others. Make sure you comment on wordpress blogs, submit articles with backlinks to article feeders like ezine.com, have good external links on your site, constantly update your site with new content ( blog entries ), use social media, bookmarking sites like digg and stumbleupon, have high traffic sites and high page rank sites that link to you, comment in forums with dofollow links... Etc etc.

In summary, it is very difficult and time consuming to learn and execute the process. It is worth the effort. Probably why seo companies charge so much.

There is no easy way. Don't be tempted to buy hundreds of links at once. Look up black hat seo on google, and understand the things that you cannot do, else you will be blacklisted.

It appears to me now that the links are the main difference between making it with Bing & Yahoo and making it with Google. I 'm surprised I did so well with Bing & Yahoo with only a few links.

I haven't started linking again yet and submitting articles as Google Places merged my new website details with my main website details and they have just rectified this after 3 months of confusion.

I had to remove links to the website to stop google merging details. (I didn't know that Google would merge my 2 Places adds even though they have different phone number, websites and emails. I don't think I will be able to get a Places ad for the new website unless I find another address for it which goes against Googles rules. What a frustrating problem to sort out!)
What I have so far looks good if Bing & Yahoo have it one page one, now I will get to and start on the links etc for Google.

You are welcome, it is a continual process... The older your site and the links that link to it get, the more weight they have.

I also use a site called socialadr, it is a group that adds eachother to sites like digg, stumbleupon etc. You can pay for lots of bookmarks, that get slowly added over a week or so or you can gain points by adding other members sites to the bookmarking sites.

It takes a while to setup, about an hour or two, but I have found it useful in my seo plan.
