Hi all, thanks for all the replies, it is quite overwhelming at the interest shown.

Just a few notes to cover a few of the points brought up in conversation.

I basically just need someone to design the look and feel of the site (layout, colours, menus etc etc) and the Ecommerce structure. And then I can take over entering in products.

I have had some experience with other sites loading items which are for similar use, ie a part might fit 10 different makes and models.

I could design a site myself, but it would not be of professional quality and I want to make a statement with this site and want it to look really good and professional. Plus I do not have the time to muck around with Zen Cart, or any other Open Source software, and for 1,000 - 2,000k it would be worth me paying someone to do it.

Ive been thinking about it, and I don't think linking to Xero is required now. I use a software called Peach Business Software which looks after my Trading side of the business, so invoicing, stock control, customer and supplier records. I have just started using Xero for accounting but all sales will go through Peach first anyway. And like someone said PayPal is integrated with Xero anyway, so we wont worry about that.

I do think the drop down menu thing is a big one. If an item can be entered in and like the following example.
A set of Brake Pads part number DB1085. It fits the following vehicles.
Holden Commodore 1980 to 1997 & Toyota Lexcen 1993-1996
So when entering in the product, it would have to be put in as
Make - Holden, Model - Commodore, Year - 1980
Make - Holden, Model - Commodore, Year - 1981
Make - Holden, Model - Commodore, Year - 1982
etc etc all the way to
Make - Holden, Model - Commodore, Year - 1997
Make - Toyota, Model - Lexcen, Year - 1993
etc etc
So a customer could go in a drop down menu
Make - Holden, Model - Commodore, Year - 1996
and it will show this part along with any other part that fits that model.
A website that has this is http://www.thepartsbin.com/guides/geo.html
What they have is exactally what I would want.

The data entry I know will take a long long time, but I need something to start with and over time build it up. Im not expecting to get massive sales straight away. But I need to start somewhere and even if I have 100 items on there it is a start.

Can be done easily...

Even the uploads of products can be done using a excel document

Regards

Phillip

IMO, No it wouldn't. Only an amateur will touch an ecommerce site for that much...

Lower your expectations...or you will get burned...

Also bare in mind the amateurs are the most keen....the people that know what they are doing wouldn't poke a stick at you...

That is not using categorisation it is using search to get a result and then creating 'after search navigation' the search has been custom built as far as I can tell using PHP as has the whole site. I would suspect that The Parts Bin cost a hell of a lot more than $2,000 to build. You can use categorisation in a similar way but if you have 1000's of products it will be painful to maintain. Here is an example of a site that uses categories to provide a similar result - www.maceengineering.com.au.

So it all comes back to how many products you have and what level of effort you are willing to apply in maintaining the content.

Hi

I run a site called Tradr.

We are based in Sydney.

You can setup an online shopfront for $6 a month.

All products you sell through your site attract a 4.5% marketplace fee.

You map your domain to our server.

That's it.

We only have a couple of generic templates at the moment.

Please check it out and email me via the contact link.

Cheers,

John

I have a few suggestions for you

If you want to do it yourself on a budget look at http://www.webcitypro.com all inclusive cost of $19.95 a month which includes domain, unlimited products, hosting, email and shopping cart. Its pretty awesome. Its basic though but does the job.

If you would like a professional job done take a look at http://www.web123.com.au and ask for Bianca and mention my name. Sites start from $1495 and you can be online within a week or for an ecommerce site with unlimited products approx $1995 all on sale at the moment.

Even better if you mention this special code WAHMOZ from me this will get you another $200 off the price.

Hope this helps Leah
